i have never seen a comic adaptation that didn't do that.
but the first episode was really good and i hope it will get even better.
i'm so happy that its AMC doing it. only HBO could have done similarly good or better job

But does that make it okay? I can understand some adaptations altering things for budgetary reasons, but the changes for Preacher are just odd choices that change the entire tone of the narrative.

its never about the budget its about the fact that comics, books and TV shows or movies have a different pace of storytelling.
the change in tone is probably done because they want to appeal to more people.
i get your point but it still has the potential to become a great show.

As a big fan of the Lucifer comic I raged hard after they completely butchered the character and plot. I loved Preacher too but won't have the time to watch the show for a few days, I'm really hoping they don't do the same thing.

You'd never sell a show in America where one of the characters proves that the Christian God is an asshat and promptly kills him for good. The meek believers would burn down the studio in their meekness.
Or just threaten to secede. They are good at that too.

Preacher looks good from a trailer I saw, but I'm too impatient for TV. If they add it to Netflix where I can binge watch a whole season in one sitting, I'll try it though q: haha.

I loved the first episode.
It will probably get one of my favorite TVshows of all time.
Cassidy is the best character ever.
And Tom Cruise finally exploded.
