This is the system that a lot of people - that had a saying in it - agreed upon and now they're sticking to it.
At least you're not alone ;)

It is there as a thank you for contributors.
You are never entitled to getting something back when you make giveaways.

I don't know why I'd think that you're crazy for speaking your own opinion. You are not the first one that considers the contributor system as bad, and you won't be the last. We'd be better off without it.
The prices on SteamGifts are taken directly from the Steam US Store. We do not track prices, we take them as they are now.

I know the feeling of getting to $2000 three times too

Maybe its a lots easier to sync the CV only with the actual Steam-Database for prizes...otherwise SG had to make an own database with Steamprizes.

Doesnt this encourage people to do giveaways of games that wont drop in price? All $60 games will be $20 someday, a lot (if not most) $5-10 games wont go any lower. Seeing giveaways of a brand new $60 game is rare but it does happen. So imo it's a bit unfair (but I guess there's a good reason why it's like that).
I don't mind it (I do dislike it a tiny bit though) :p

This is a good idea. Oh, and any games given away during a sale period should only give CV of the price of the game at the sale period. They should also tag your IP so that SG can match your CV to the cost of the game in your country. And also, they should vary it vs. the worth of the currency of your country. So if your country's currency becomes more valuable, it changes how much CV you get from giving a game. And because people are in different economic situations, we should each fill out a detailed tax form for SG to determine what our income is and what we can afford to spend on gifts, and increase CV for people that have low income, as they're really giving away more of their total income. And good games should be worth more because the value of a game isn't just in money, it's how carefully the person selects it, so if they spend time to select a good game, that should be reflected in the value of the CV you get from it. And SG should also monitor every trading site and key sellers to see if you traded for the game you're giving away, because some people get games for even cheaper through trading or through 3rd party key sellers.
Only with these changes will SteamGifts TRULY be fair. And that's what the website is all about, right? Rewarding gifters as fairly as possible and making sure nobody gets ahead of anyone else?

Please fill in your CV-198 tax report and send it to support as soon as possible.
Not providing your tax information may lead to SteamGifts officials repossessing your contribution value.

Why can't the contrib value be unaffected by games price drops? It was worth more when donated, argh.
