The thing is that the biggest part of this "community" is just a bunch of people trying to get their hands on free instagibs, preferably GTA V and sorts. When they realize that having a higher level means getting better games and having better chances they make fake GAs.
I've seen enough of that. Level 0 steam users that register and give 3 triple AAA titles away all of a sudden.
You just gotta differ between the leeches and the normal people on here.
And btw what I just said will be bashed because I am a lvl 1 myself. :D

But as the games haven't been received and therefore not validated the Fake GA is worthless right? If not then something should change in the support section. This would fall into category 3 but I still fail to see how the Fake giver benefits?

They think that their scam will work. They probably don't know that the winner has to mark it as received before they get the CV.
It's just like scammers on steam. They add hundreds of people until one person is stupid enough to fall for it.

They probably doesn't know this and think it will work

There are also some people, usually new to the site who thought they can give away a game that is already activated on their accounts. Good intention, but uninformed.

thx that is a new category. Funnily enough one that I was in with my first GA. But when I found out I contacted support and they took it down.

The most common I've seen:

the first one is category 1. and two 2 and three 3 right? Or should Freebies have a category of their own?

The freebies probably fall under "personal gain". They think it's Ok to misrepresent the game since they couldn't find the right one in the list.

I have been on the receiving end of fake GAs a few times. I have also seen GAs that clearly are false even with the maker stating they are so (I.E in the description saying it is another game that is free or a DLC or something third.)
My question is why???
I have some theories and will make some categories.
language misunderstanding. People thinking they wish for the game and not giving it away. (this I find to be just stupid as the GA page is quite clear and if in doubt ask someone with the same language or just translate,)
The virtual equivalent of ringing the doorbell and running away. (Infantile and destructive. This I will never understand.)
For personal gain. ( What and how I do not know, but the amount of effort to make accounts and get games and then make a GA makes me think that someone gains from it somehow.)
GA from Account that mostly new users think they can give away. (This is good intentions with unfortunate ending.)
Do you think I am right in my assessment and do you have insight into the categories and maybe more of them then please join the discussion as I am quite curious as to the why. Unfortunately the people doing this probably won't join in as they are either banned or know that what they did was wrong but if you know anyone please ask them as to the why.
