Corsair Vengeance 2000(?)
had the wireless version of this and really liked it. (givven its relative low price)
Also, everything made by Sennheiser is always a good guess, but they´re quite expensive.
peperbol said G35, and that it´s the same as the G930. If that´s so, I wouldn´t agree with him, as I´m using a G930 right now and am not satisfied at all with it.
You (like me) would like an USB-Headset, otherwise I´d recommend to get a Sennheiser HD449 (60$) + Sound Blaster Recon3D (50$) and a 5$ microphone.

German Amazon, not sure if you can order from there in the U.S.

U have the turtle beach p11? I just got the ear force x12 3 days ago and it was the worst decision of my life ;-;. I like razer though.

Don´t go for razer... just a personal opinion...
I got their Megalodon headset, sound was kinda ok, but chat partners complained about the mic a lot.
Checked the web for a solution, and found that a firmware update would do the trick. But tadaa, said update wasn´t available on razers site anymore, as it tended to destroy the headset. But they gave a statement: tech support for the product was cancelled, as the problems could not be solved.
Now don´t get me wrong, things like that can happen, but they knew about this for more than 2 years when I bought it, and they still sold (and are still selling) this thing as is.
Their support wasn´t even "nice" enough to offer a replacement. I felt really scammed that day.
(Don´t believe me? check the german amazon site (maybe google translate xD)... every other review will tell you the same. For some reason, the US reviews don´t mention it at all, just checked that.)

Or maybe you could just delay it and save some more to get an actually good headset?

+1 get yourself a clip on/usb mic and a quality pair of headphones.

mic quality usually depend on the PSU too, I have this issue with my PSU and in my brother's with his Corsair no, however mi headset is a Speedlink Surround 5.1. So I connected it to my monitor, for skype is good but if recording there is sound in the background, I should change my PSU and shouldn't buy it but it was my first build :(

I actually would recommend you stereo headsets, I disliked the true or virtual 5.1/7.1 headsets, normally Stereo has better sound quality (but depends), and is not worth in my opinion unless you are using speakers, there are some good non gaming and gaming from Sennheiser the Sennheiser HD 449(w/o mic)69€ and Sennheiser PC-Series (with mic) 80€, but the term "gaming" is just marketing really, any other headset that is not market as a "gaming" is good for "gaming" and music too.

I have one 5.1 true surround headset, OK I can listen music and playing games at the same time, for example in Battlefield 3 I can hear all shots, walks, voices and at the same time listening music since all occurs in different channels I can hear all like separately, generally in games you have more sense for what's around you since all sounds divide to a particular sound channel and intensify, but you have to calibrate front, rear, woofer and center for every game which is not comfortable, all of these is not that much needed or helpful, so usually I just keep my headset in 2 audio channels which for a 5.1 is a waste.

Creative Audigy Live (or CAL2 if you don't mind going a little over budget) + a clip on mic (Neweer or HDE). This way you have headphones that are actually amazing for music and movies (great bass, etc.) and still good for gaming. CAL2 actually has an inline mic, but I'm not sure how great it is for chat in games, although I've been using it fine for phone calls.

Make sure to avoid a headset that is excessively heavy. It's the main thing I regret about this Roccat Kave I got a while ago. It leads to discomfort after an hour or so of use. If I could choose again I'd go for a good stereo-only headset that is corded (hate it when wireless headsets run out of charge) and lightweight.

I've been using Plantronics GameCom 780 for a while now and they are great.
Haven't played many fps games but in MMOs like SWToR and TSW they sound great, I also play LOL a lot and got nothing to complain about. The Stereo is great for music(altho i prefer to mess around with dolby settings) and the 7.1 virtual surround is epic for movies. I have watched a lot of films with it and the effects and positions feel bang on for me =)
The default bass settings felt a bit low but you can just rise the LFE channel to match ur needs.
