CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a digital optical disc storage format. A CD-R disc is a compact disc that can be written once and read arbitrarily many times.

A CD-ROM /ˌsiːˌdiːˈrɒm/ is a pre-pressed optical compact disc which contains data. The name is an acronym which stands for "Compact Disc Read-Only Memory".

the first sentences of the both articles

I think all should be compatible. I mostly used DVD-R discs, but i don't think it should make a difference if its DVD-R or DVD-RW also i don't see why it wouldn't read CD discs as well.

While writing this i googled it, and this came up, so check what version you have i guess

EDIT: beat me to it :D

I used to have a modded up PS2, as I recall RW discs didn't really work, although my Sony brand DVD-RW might have (minus not plus). The best thing is (on fats) to stick an old hard disk in there, run softmodded of course, and then stream w/e you want to the internal drive via ethernet, and run from there.
After pcsx2 I no longer had any interest in my unit and got rid of it.

A blue colored PS2 disc is a CD-ROM (650 megabyte maximum size)
These "blue" games were released in the early years of the console.
