Well, I enjoy this genre myself and some games I've played that are similar in gameplay to Escape Academy that I'd recommend would be:
Escape Simulator, Discolored, The Guest, The House of Da Vinci 1-2, The Room 1-4, Tested on Humans: Escape Room, all the "We Were Here" games, Mad Experiments: Escape Room
And then for some other games you might enjoy that I've also played and enjoyed myself, they're also escape room but a bit different:
all games from the "Rusty Lake" developers, Agent A: A puzzle in disguise, Heal, Tick Tock: A Tale for Two
And here is two Escape Room games I have not played myself but they're on my wishlist, so maybe you'll find them interesting too:
The Inheritance of Crimson Manor, Escape From Mystwood Mansion
Hope you find something in here that you enjoy :D

+1 to Da Vinci games. It will fit if you like small, little and tiny details =P
Actually, The Room is almost the same - its an earlier project from the same developer without story telling that consist of separated casual rooms

I'd like to recommend a pretty short free game A Book of Beasts and Buddies. The "story" is filling in a bestiary, but the core gameplay is almost just like an escape room!

The Rusty Lake games have many similar games, that are played inside a room / in a small location - but they are point and click, not first person walkaround games.
The Initiate was interesting, and I try to figure out what was the name of another similarish game I played
edit: the second game is the minigame inside Dread X collection, called Outsiders

Besides what everyone else said, I recommend What Never Was. It's a short and free game, but I enjoyed it a lot

It's already been said, but worth saying again, Escape Simulator is my go-to when it comes to escape room games. Between the excellent DLCs they've released and the community workshop support, the amount of content in that game is crazy. For just mechanics and puzzle variety, I think it's the top game you can get. If story and such is important, other's might have more to offer though.
It's also worth mentioning that the price of it will go up on April 2nd, since they're adding VR support to it. So it might be worth grabbing before then if interested.

I don't know if anyone is still thinking of buying it or if they made a recent purchase and can refund it, but from the creator's comment, there will be a sale from today until the 14th of the month. Its price will increase on the 14th of the month.

Thanks for the tip, but I already played Escape Academy back when it came out. It was alright, but I found the puzzles to be very similar to other titles. Me and the person I was playing with just flew through it, there was not really anything we hadn't seen before. And a lot of it reminded me of Operation: Tango.

I might be repeating some recommendations but the Myst series- escape island rather than escape room. The room series and house of da vinci games! Also boxes lost fragments, looks very similar to the room but I haven't personally played it yet. Escape simulator and we were here are both fun to play with friends. Escape memoirs fits the genre. Confabulation is fun if you like horror. Escape from mystwood mansion is a good one, I feel like it has similar vibes to Escape academy! That's all I can remember at the moment. Happy puzzling :)

Escape room type games are some of my favorite games. It does depend on how you classify the genre though, as it's sort of a lose definition in a sense.
If you consider games like Myst to be in the same genre or close enough then I've got plenty of suggestions. With that in mind some of these may not be your cup of tea, but I will also second what others have said about some of the games.
The ones I will also vouch for are Escape Simulator (best bang for your buck, since it has user generated content), The House of Da Vinci 1-3 (3rd one is a little meh but still fun), Rusty Lake series (and all other games by them), Mad Experiment: Escape Room (not the best, but passable), and The Room 1-4
My additions for purely escape room style games:
If you have VR:
Abode
The Room VR: A Dark Matter
These ones are kinda meh at times, but still good. A tad short for my liking, but they're relatively cheap especially on sale:
Alumni
A Last Will and Testament: Adventure (I've reviewed this one if you want to take a look)
Between Time: Escape Room
Tested on Humans: Escape Room
Palindrome Syndrome: Escape Room
Regular Factory: Escape Room
These that are less escape room and just general Puzzle Adventure type and sort of Escape Room adjacent:
Myst
Riven
Obduction
Quern - Undying Thoughts
Oneiros
Black Mirror (started BM 2 but haven't gotten around to finishing it)
The Witness
The Pillar
And there's a game that has not yet released, but I was lucky enough to be a tester for the game for a while, on and off (you'll see me in the credits when it's out!)
Blue Prince
I can't say much about the game, as I am still under NDA, but I highly recommend checking it out when it releases. ESPECIALLY if you like escape rooms and puzzles and such.
I have a few others in my library I'm probably forgetting at the moment, and even more I have yet to get around to playing. But I hope you have fun with some of these suggestions!

Seconding Zero Escape, but they're probably best played on DS/3DS.
At the very least I feel like 999 should be played on original hardware, VLR is probably fine on anything.
And then Zero Time Dilemma is a huge disappointment...

The gameplay is probably better on DS/3DS for 999, but you sacrifice voice acting. There's pros/cons to each I guess. The zero escape series would be my first recommendation for escape room games, there was even a real life escape room that's based on it in LA.

Super basic, but i really enjoyed The Room series (that Daniel already mentioned). I agree with Almeck that The Myst series is also great, with Riven as it stand-out, and Zero Escape Nonary Games, like yourshk mentioned, is also great, The 7th Guest is another classic.

🤔It reminds me of a game from a long time ago in 2004.

Hi! I am playing escape room games and I'm enjoying them. I've completed Escape Academy, but I would like to discover other games, even not so common ones. Do you have any recommendation? Thanks!
