Which was the best?
Nice, definitely on my top 3 but my favorite is Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith

I believe that it is almost impossible for me to actually rank the movies to determine the best one. I could provide thoughts on any one of these movies and probably find good and bad things in all of them.
My theory is, that when a franchise is at least 30 years old, you will always end up with different eras, each with their own fans. Some prefer the Original trilogy and hate the prequels. But the kids who grew up with the prequels are adults now and share their fond childhood memories. And right now we witness the release of the sequel trilogy and in maybe 10 years, we will read all about the people who loved growing up with these movies.
That of course sometimes leads to unpleasant and sometimes toxic arguments about which trilogy is the best.
That being said, my general thoughts are (in order of Episode number):
Episode I-III:
My least favorite trilogy. There are many interesting ideas and topics. The Jedi-Sith-conflict, the Clone Wars, politics, the love of Anakin and Amidala, the prophecy. I feel like a different filmmaker would have chosen maybe one or two topics and explore this topic more detailed. Instead, I feel like none of these themes are explored deeply enough.
Episode IV-VI:
The original and still really great today. Episode IV is basicly a straight forward adventure and it's really good at it. Episode V managed to build a lot on top of it and still be a really impressive movie, definitely the best of the original trilogy. I sometimes feel like people generally don't give VI enough appreciation. Sure, they had Ewoks, but overall I'm sill kinda impressed how cool the final battle is, with the three layers (ground, space, Luke) and how they all matter for the overall story. It's surely not perfect, but still really cool. Also, f*** the Special Editions :D
Episode VII-VIII:
Many people dislike the sequels and I get it partially. But you have to appreciate, that J.J. Abrahams managed to make an overall good new Episode after all this time. And the only major flaw I see with VII is, that it is too similar to IV. And that is a valid criticism. But I feel like it's a really impressive achievement that they managed to come up with several interesting and likeable new characters. Also, the new world of Star Wars just feels right. Episode VIII is ... a difficult topic. I hate arguing about every single plot point with strangers on the internet. But overall, I appreciate that they tried to introduce a new kind of movie to the Star Wars saga. And I like that it has the balls to do things different. But then again, you can point out all these big plot holes, the out-of-nowhere twists and some difficult decisions (like killing Snoke). I sometimes believe that Episode VIII started to introduce new ideas into the franchise, but the resulting effects have to be explored in the following movies, especially Episode IX. It feels like VIII is the foundation for new themes in the Star Wars universe and the movies quality will greatly depend on whether IX will build on that or ignore it. That's why I will not judge this movie yet.
Other movies:
I like Rogue One. The characters feel somewhat underdeveloped, but it introduces a new kind of Star Wars movie. And yes, it now feels like a real war, not like a soap opera. But that makes the comparison with other Star Wars movies really hard.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is solid. It's not exactly great, it's not bad either. I don't know much to say about it to be honest. :D
The Clone Wars (film): For me definitely the worst Star Wars movie of all the ones mentioned. But I haven't really been a fan of the tv series either, maybe it's just not my preferred type of Star Wars movie.

It's a good theory but I don't think the kids who watch these now will remember them from all the other ton of nondescript action movies they saw in their childhood.
The first trilogy is legendary, even for people born after it was released. The prequels were mostly epic by ricochet because it was the big return of Star Wars so maybe, just maybe, there are people attached to it because of that. The Disney franchise is just money making special effect extravaganza with the star wars brand so it won't stand the test of time. They'll be replaced by whatever's next and probably buried under a sh!t ton of Marvel movies by the time those kids grow up.

I kinda enjoyed all episodes of the old trilogy for the Force and the prequel trilogy for the war when i was younger.
I'm really enjoying the new trilogy, maybe more than the previous ones. The seventh was really good and give me a nice nostalgic feeling.
In the trailer of the eight episode they mentioned the "balance". Which is what interests me the most now and i really hope to see more about that in the upcoming movie. If theres going to be some things about the grey jedi then there is a chance the 9th is going to be my favourite.

Thanks for the opinion, you are one of the few people that says something good of the new trilogy.
Im expecting much from the 9th episode, if it is as good as i expect then it will rise the overall rating of this trilogy

I think Star Wars is highly overrated
keep them Blacklists coming 😁

None of them, even the first trilogy, are flawless, but their impact on culture, visual media and storytelling, alone makes them impossible to overrate.
My point is even if they were just no good, their cultural impact makes them legendary.
Just out of curiosity, what other franchise is your Star Wars?

I would totally agree that they were amazing when they first came out, but truly the story isn't really that amazing and the visuals aged so poorly
I don't think I'm a fan of any franchise that much as the Star Wars Nerds I know, but I do like a lot of different movies/series

Empire for me. It had a good balance of dark and light moments and as it was an unabashed middle film (at a time where that just wasn't done), they didn't feel the need for happy endings, which gives it more gravitas than A New Hope I think.
I also like the other two from the original trilogy, especially in terms of narrative, but this one stands out for me.
I didn't dislike Phantom Menace even though it was way more cartoony that I was hoping for.
Attack of the Clones was downright laughable (especially because they were trying so hard to be dramatic and unlike the original trilogy, the script wasn't strong enough to support the horrendous acting of the lead) and it took me years to even make myself watch Revenge of the Sith (mostly because I was playing the Lego Star Wars game and I thought it was silly to play the game without watching the movie) but I was still disappointed by how empty it felt. It was a toy-selling licensing fest. An overblown commercial with no soul.
I can't even bring myself to have an opinion on the Disney movies because they make the prequel trilogy look like masterpiece theatre. The vague excuse for a script, the acting, the direction, the "characters", everything is even shallower and more commercial than the prequels felt.
Oh and thanks for the Jigis ;)

The best thing about Star Wars is the funny and clever Mr. Plinkett /RedLetterMedia "reviews": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxKtZmQgxrI

unluckily, I stopped watching movies 15 years ago for various reasons and on the other hand, I re-started three years ago but I'm leaving out some genres such as sci-fi or horror movies..
this means I have seen only 5 Star Wars movies and the last episode (Attack of the Clones) was one of the last movies I saw at the cinema!
since I was born in the '80s, I saw the original three ones on tape and my favourite of them all is The Empire Strikes Back, although I love all the original series and I have also liked the first two prequels when they came out!
of the other three movies, I suppose they came out recently since I've never seen them!
thanks for sharing and bringing back lots of great Star Wars memories, which by the way have been greatly transposed into Italian which is my native tongue too =)
