You guys heard of it yet? Looks like it's going to be pretty good too. http://www.thedeadlinger.com/

They needed cash to start it up and are almost %200 on kickstarter. Just thought I'd let you zombie fans know!

Already been posted here and here. That said, I've backed it myself for $50. Here's hoping it's good.

Never hurts to give it more publicity. I sent $25 their way but I'm thinking of throwing in a $50.

$25 Well spent I hope ?

Well, the nice thing about $50 is the extra copy. The special item isn't bad (it's a very large backpack with a speed boost) but not worth the other $25 alone unless you specifically want to support the project more. It's fully funded though, so... you don't really need to.

Yeah looking at it like that doesn't justify another $25 for an extra item. The extra copy would be useful if you already had someone in mind to gift it to. It really just comes down to how much you want to support them, regardless of the rewards. Let's hope those $25 were well spent though.

Eh, I might sell my extra one to a friend or something. Try to make some of the money back. Or, if I'm in a REALLY good mood, I might give it away here. But since I'm a cheap SOAB that's kinda doubtful. Though I do need to put that one game I have up for giveaway...

I was going to ask "Why another zombie survival FPS when L4D is so awesome?", but then I saw it's gonna be sandbox :P

Yeah and it's going to be a lot slower in terms of planning your next move to survive. Should be fun.

L4D isn't a zombie survival game, by far. If you want to play one, check out Cataclysm (not the WoW expansion). Might take some getting used to if you never played these kinds of games.

But... how does one go and Google Cataclysm without having to browse through 10 pages of WoW?

Cataclysm + Roguelike -WoW, -Warcraft

Yeah survival horror not the same thing as survival, or even horror. I think it's weird how easily people get those things confused.

I would like the support these guys, but in my current financial position and fear that this game might not live up to it's expectations forces me to pass. If the game turns out good in the end I'll probably buy it, but I don't think I can help fund it at this point.

Understandable. Hoping it lives up to it's ambitious goals myself. You can still be an active member of the community! http://www.sandswept.net/forums/

"The world of The Dead Linger is randomly generated, and it is the size of a small planet. We don't simply mean it's large, we truly mean it's planet-sized. About 25,000 kilometers, to be exact. Every new world created will be different, and you can explore every inch of it, indoors and outdoors, every window, every door."

This. As soon as I get my paycheck in a few days, totally doing this.

I think it sounds a bit too ambitious. These guys appeared out of nowhere and the genre they are doing has already been done many times and not with great results in many cases. Also , huge randomly generated worlds can be done with the graphics of games like minecraft or terraria, but yeah .. don't expect much more than that. I dunno if I would trust them with a full price donation.

The risk you take with a good portion of kickstarter projects I guess.

They haven't appeared out of nowhere, I've been steamfriends with one of the devs for around a year now. Their last title was Detour, and is available on Steam. Really good guys.

To be honest, I'm starting to have second thoughts about backing this. There are jusst a few nagging problems for me. The first is that this game is a major deviation from the only other game they've made that I know of (DETOUR). The two really don't seem close at all, so I have to wonder how well they'd be able to handle such a different game.

The second is that $6,000 being asked for isn't a lot of money for this kind of thing. Hell, even $12,000-$15,000 isn't a lot to get the game into full alpha stage. Which ties into point three. Even if they get it to a decent alpha stage with the money they get (which I'm doubting they're factoring in things like the taxes they'll have to pay or the time/cost of some rewards), there's still the issue of other people buying it at that point. That's where the rest of their funding would have to come from after all, at least under their plans now.

The whole thing just seems iffy, and I'm not sure I'm comfortable risking much on a project that may not work out.

The kickstarter money is just an extra push to get the game out faster.
