Status: contest is over. Congratulations, hyldenking! If you enjoyed this puzzle, head over to the successor SG2: The FranCompanion Cube Adventures :)

I had a great time the last two weeks since I joined this site, so I decided I should give away a game myself after winning one already!

This puzzle is made up of two parts:

  • play my test chamber SG1 Timewarp (updated, see the list of changes 1 and 2 below)
  • enter the code you can see at the exit as the answer to this single question test. You will get the link to the giveaway by answering correctly, there are multiple possible ways to enter the code.

In case you are missing the code on your playthrough, have a look at this screenshot.

Please don't spoil the fun by providing gameplay hints. If you don't know how to read and enter the code, a hint will be available in the questionaire after one hour once you entered a wrong answer.

The giveaway ends sunday.

If there are just a handful of people who entered the giveaway, I might add a second test that does not require a copy of Portal 2 to complete, but rather some Portal related knowledge. Feel free to argue why this should not be done in this thread and convince me to not add the second way to enter. But if I do put up a second test, you are allowed to help others with gameplay and code related questions.

Official map related help:

  • I'd like to remind you of the quicksave functionality (F6), as there are ways to kill yourself or your progress in this test chamber
  • take the companion cube and don't fizzle it! With the new versions of the map you can get back to where it spawns, but the companion cube is your friend, take care!

Official code related help:

  • no zero in your answer, please

Kudos to MatoMatico and Aleri0n for pioneering in the field of test chamber related giveaway puzzles. Thanks to Toothless2603 for his Portal 2 thread and his reviews. Looking forward to your opinion on this one ;) And thank you to Fecske and others in that thread for sharing their maps and input.

Enjoy!

PS: it's not only my first giveaway, but also the first Portal 2 map I built.

Seems like a mapping flaw to me...?

Nope, that's intentionally part of the puzzle.

Getting locked in a room where I can't get out from or access the only place to put my cube is intentional?

If you've got your frankencube, you are just looking for the right solution to make use of those portal surfaces.

I have no idea how that is supposed to be solved using portals. I solved that room without one because the portals seemed impossible as a solution to me.

You deleted a subset of the discussion with my comment where I recommended playing the beginning of chapter eight, The Itch, of the original Portal 2 campaign again.

It may be possile that he doesn't want to tell what's the game given away.

Well, for one it's part of the fun, on the other hand the game gets hinted about in the test chambers description.

18 hours and the chances are rising!

One participant pulled his entry, so there are currently only 3 people competing. Your chance to win at 25%!

updated the testchamber to V3

Lots of small updates, changes and fixes:

  • overhauled the frankencube room. Added guidlines, made the catwalk more visually prominent, easier cube grabbing, streamlined exit.
  • overhauled the cube juggler puzzle. Added a floor plate in a newly carved out deadend to trigger the cube dropper instead of doing it by the cube receiver in its alcove. Also heightened the drop off pit and added the ability to stop the cube right above it. Those changes should make it easier to let the cube land on the weighted button at the bottom. Sadly, the new layout also introduced a new bug: the cube can now miss the first faith plate and require manually redropping it with the newly added button. Still better than in the first version.
  • got rid of the portal ledge and its stairs in the center of the room. It wasn't really adding to the challenge, the change uncluttered the wiring on the floor and it is now possible to get a new companion cube should you ever lose your first one (don't you dare!).
  • switched the orientation of the lower three lasers and moved the sliding platform. Now you can park the platform down in the water, not blocking any laser and it also made the wiring look cleaner.
  • removed a lot of glass and laser walls. Those things are expensive! I can paint a whole level in moonstone (7$ a piece!), but I am not allowed to have glass and lasers in abundance? Hate those beancounters! The savings paid for the new buttons and stuff. Also led to a bigger pool of deadly water at the time machine. Pools are dirt cheap by the way.

Overall, the individual challenges of the map remain the same, which is slightly less true for the cube juggling. Redownload if you had a lot of trouble with that part.

updated the testchamber to V5

Just one change:

  • the frankencube deactivates if you placed it on the weighted button repeatedly or for too long, so it would refuse to walk anymore. Solution: turn the weighted button into a pedestal button that does not interact with the frankencube.

Thanks to bnvdarklord, who pointed it out.

Guess I did something wrong, since neither code works for me. Well, it was fun and actually pretty hard. The doors closed behind me, so I cannot double check and am not gonna go through the ordeal of repeating the whole thing.

Thanks anyway!

this seems cool, I'm gonna download it right now :)

edit: solved the chamber, but am having a little trouble with the puzzle, can this not be solved with Clicky or am I just converting the wrong code?

Also, this was a very good chamber, it could have easily been in the original campaign. I guess the people who voted it down just gave up on it after dying too often :)

Thanks for your comment! Sadly, the frankencube puzzle didn't really make it into the original game and other parts are unlikely to would have passed QA/play testing by Valve's standards, but it's nice of you saying that :) That's what community test chambers are for, explore the puzzle space the original creators didn't think of or didn't dare to throw at the players.

And yes, that tool might help, but only if you go for the ASCII DEC / Char one by one.

Then it must have been the frankencube's decision all by itself.
