Japanese video revealing it
Looks like all versions in Japan this time will be the Replicant version of the game. Back during the original release in Japan, PS3 had the Replicant / Brother version, 360 had the Gestalt / Father version. When the game came to English speaking regions, both systems got the Gestalt version. Wondering if English versions of the remake will be a straight port of the Japanese Replicant version, if we get a Gestalt version or if the game will allow you to pick between. I'm hoping for the later.

Judging by the initial voice cast, it may give us the option to play Gestalt (old man) or Replicant (young man).

Oh I have just finished Nier Automata this month and I have looked into some lore thinking if i should play the original Nier on a simulator since i really liked it. Guess I will be able to play with a remake. :p

Isn't it a recent game? So few original ideas from the videogames creatives...

I was wrong, I thought the original was the recent nier automata, never heard of the previous one before.

We weren't. The original question was about NieR.

It came out on PS3/360 and looked like a PS2 game. The original had a very strict budget and both its art and gameplay suffered a lot as a result. It's positive reputation is entirely due to its wonderful music and story. A big or even medium budget remake with modern tech could do wonders for it.

That said, I normally hate remakes, virtually every one I've ever seen is done by people obsessed with pissing on the source material. I just watched some stuff on the new Panzer Dragoon remake for instance, and the level of artistic incompetence on display is staggering.

interestingly, it's a spin-off title of the Drakengard series. Drakengard 3 was made a few years after the original NieR Gestalt/Replicant, and was a lot nicer looking than original NieR

Automata is recent. This is an older game.

That they get to sell the same games twice or more is just a happy coincidence, I'm sure.

You, know just recently I tried playing Replicant on RPCS3, but it runs like crap on my system. And I would like to play Nier with English dub, but only Gestalt was dubbed in English. I do prefer playing as young Nier/the brother, though. So this news is fantastic. I hope it will finally be localized and have the option for both voice tracks. Finally coming to PC, a dream come true!

Hope it's not the same team that worked on Nier Automata. That game came out in 2017 and looked like something from the PS2 era.

This is being developed by Toylogic not Platinum though Takahisa Taura, one of the designer's for Automata is involved.

Awww damn, you just made my day! πŸ’—

I love that everyone gets another chance to enjoy this gem!
I hope you can play the gestalt/father-version.. I like it so much better!
I demand a return of Liam OΒ΄Brian as Grimoire Weiss (IF they do new audio-recordings for the game).
I fear Square will find a way to screw this up.. they just seem to love to destroy old masterpieces.. (but yeah, sometimes they get it right).
I dream of a Switch-Version. Every game should have a Switch-Version.

I'd just stick it in my PS3 / 360. If I could find the damn game. -_-

At least Nier Automata and Drakengard 3 were available digitally, so didn't have to hope for luck finding those two. Just have to find the first two Drakengard games once this comes out.

Same here. 360, disc only, ring on disc (someone moved the system when it was running, common issue for some reason) and it was over NZ$50 anyway. -_-

Completely ignored. Nothing else found.

Wait, is it a remake or remaster?

Remake = environments / characters / gameplay mechanics / etc. built from scratch but designed or inspired by the originals.
Remaster = port running at higher native resolution.

I'm not sure, I can't read Japanese. Sorry.

Figured I'd let people know we will get to play the game soon, and can update when I hear more information.

-Saito (Producer) says it's "version up" not a remake or remaster
-lots of stuff being added from the original
-possibility of a new ending? Saito says he is not sure
