So I'm currently on the market to buy a new gaming laptop, I am willing to spend about 2000-2500 Canadian (hopefully on the lower end of that cause Canadian taxes are going to be the death of me). Yes I'm aware I could build myself a decent desktop but I travel far to much for this to be a feasible option. I currently have an MSI right now and apart from a few problems that was covered under warranty I do like the brand but I am open to finding a better brand. I can also wait to see what Nvidia as in store because the last time I purchased a laptop Nvidia came out with it's new graphics cards the following week. So suggestions would be nice.

yeah i guess that would be awkward. but gaming laptops (top tier ones) are so expensive that you could probably just buy 3x pc instead, and keep them at ur 3 fav places u visit most often !

^_^

no idea really, my most expensive laptop ever was $500ish (and THAT was my gaming laptop :D) so i dont feel like id be of much help here (:

awkward, imagine the baggage fees, I mean I already have to pay them just to bring my clothes along. Man I hate flying.

yeah soon enough ud have to pay like $40 for clothes you have on too, because... because why not (: i always thought its odd to be able to catch a plane for like $100 but if ur to carry a decently sized bag with you (and god forbid its heavy stuff) ud have to pay more than that for ur damn bag.

maybe its time we start booking double tickets now, because its cheaper that way. one for me and one for my bag please

^_^

why isnt that a thing (:

Put them all on at the same time and when they ask you if you put all your clothes on accuse them of making fun of your diabetes, fat shaming etc.

I can appreciate how it runs, but who was the blind mofo that designed the case? Seriously?

I hate where the screen hinge is and the profile is like my ass after I've been on a carb binge. (And 8.4lbs and a 5400rpm HD? Really?)

I say stick with MSI if the OP likes them. Just as good if not better performance and way sexier.

My thoughts would be PC + Shield Handheld (if you can find one). If you can get a decent enough connection it can be used to remote onto your system via home network or the internet while traveling. I loved mine, but I am not travelling nearly as much so it's use diminished greatly. Hell even if you cannot stream from your own PC the NVIDIA Hub has a lot of great games you can stream.

Honestly, even though I don't need it anymore... I'm kind of wishing I had mine back.

Oh, and I should add... that pre-Shield I actually used to haul my PC around with me... but I'd spend a month or more in some extended stay place before I would move onto to another city so I really only moved the thing here and there. Also, I always traveled by car because the compensation was better so it was never packed on a plane or anything... I'd never trust the baggage handlers with my rig, ever!

that's basically me, the travelling thing. I mean I have a car but sometimes it's easier to hop on a plane and fly across the country.

Asus ROG is probably the best path for you. Also, stay away from the Lenovo gaming laptops. I have one, and it's got so, so, SO many quirks.

I can deal with quirks because I was looking at Lenovo, but I wasn't sure about the cooling.

Cooling's mediocre. Vents are on the bottom oddly enough, so there's not great ventilation, and if you actually use it on your lap, I'd recommend pants, since it can get uncomfortably hot while gaming.

For laptops, Lenovos are pretty decent for the price, but I don't think I'd get one again.

1) They did something weird with the pixel density, so I have some games register the screen as 1440x900, even though it's 1920x1080. No idea why, and never had that issue on any other laptop.
2) They use magnetic detection to determine when the lid's closed. Not annoying, just weird.
3) There is no external battery. That's irritating since I've previously purchased extra batteries so I can swap 'em out when I'm on a long plane ride or something.
4) The battery seems to have a horrible connection. If you shift it, pick it up, or move the lid, sometimes it will lose connection with the battery and turn off. That's the biggest issue I have with it.

Gonna follow your thread cause I'm in the same situation - new unit needed and travel a lot. To be honest I'm still more into standard good PC + Lenovo Yoga 3 14 somehow later but better know your options :).

I had a similar problem some time ago. Wanted to buy a decent gaming laptop, simply because I'll be moving in with my bf (who happens to live in the US, while i'm from Argentina), so a desktop isn't a good idea for the moment. I do want to build a nice desktop one eventually once we're settled in, but for now I'm fine with my Toshiba. However, I don't recommend mine as "gaming" mainly because... well, the processor speed is bad xD the gpu is nice tho! lol

I'm sure a lot of experienced people here will give you good options and recommend something good for you. I'll leave a bump at least!

I'm too broke to enter your level3+ GA but that's not your fault so I'll advise you anyway, get the best Asus ROG in your budget. Focus on it having a GTX 980m over more storage or unnecessary RAM. If you'll link me to your local online stores I'll pick one out for you.
