Do points regenerate now? It's not a fractional system like it used to be?

As far as the FAQ is concerned the system hasn't changed. The amount generated may have though.

Take into account though that some users will have been stockpiling bundle spares and the like during the downtime.

Things will slow down again once people offload their stockpiles. I will say though, I actually hit my 300 cap this morning when I logged in... I logged off last night with like 20 unspent.

Way too fast. Although it looks like a good thing; the more points given means the more entries in a giveaway which means harder to win! :)

Not quite true since you get points based on giveaways which means there are more giveaways over which to spread the points. Sure very popular games might see more entries but others will see less entries as a result. In the end the system balances itself.

everyone gets the same amount of points so the chances don't change you just enter in more giveaways

But it also means that the chances of you winning something that you actually want is lower, as more people will just enter everything they see, even if it's a game that they have no interest in.

maybe if you have 1500+ games you just have few games to enter and you just enter everything but for those with less than 200 you have no points left to do that.another thing is that people are not all day in steamgifts, only once in a while so when and if they reach 300p the rest points go nowhere.

This ^ on the old SG i usually only had about 4 or 5 pages of GA's that i could enter, now its triple that.

With SG down for a week it's not surprising to see a flood of giveaways that people were holding.

I really don't see how this is a problem. It's like a hungry person at an all-you-can-eat buffet saying "Hey cooks stop making so much food for this buffet!"

It's because so many users are giving away all of the bundle games, plus there are all the giveaways once people realized that CV was still a thing. I know I was holding onto some gifts to celebrate SGv2, I'm sure many users are doing the same.

I was holding some gifts until SGv2 came back. :)

Yes!
Biggest problem with SGv1 hasn't been addressed in SGv2.

Points regenerate fast.
This means people can indiscriminately spam entries into large numbers of giveaways.
This means odds of winning anything (even ones that are part of a new-bundle flood) are tiny.
This means indiscriminate spamming entries is the only way to actually stand any chance of winning anything.

A vicious circle which severely hinders the "user experience". Unless perhaps one is of the pointlessly-clicking-facebook-games fan type...

Better would be: (IMHO of course; no need for anyone to point this out...)
Points regenerate very slowly.
This means you actually have to THINK about which giveaways you REALLY WANT to enter.
This means the number of entries for each giveaway is considerably reduced.
This means the chance of actually winning a game (which you actually do want) is significantly HIGHER.
This means the fact that you have entered fewer giveaways actually isn't a problem, because your win/entry ratio is better.

The regeneration should not be tied to people creating new giveaways, because there will always be a lot of basically-free bundle game giveaways created.

Maybe you should pick your entries more wisely.
I mean, it's obvious that since the "new beginning" points are raining down but that didn't actually change the odds of winning too much for me. I did check the last 25 no-level-restricted-public-giveaways I entered and the average entries are 339, so an average ~0.29% win chance, this mean that a lvl 0 account can realistically win something and that's not too bad if you ask me. Now if you want to also consider level restricted giveaways the odds are going to rise and will rise even more if you have the patience to search for low populated giveaways.

One could say that entering favorable giveaways ≠ getting the games you really want, but if I did learn something from my probability books is that you should always bet on favourable odds, since in the long run it will eventually pay off.

Point's regenarting "to fast" because after one week break/delay poeple just create a lot of overdue giveaways + they are just excited about new SG2, so they create even more of them.
Just wait half or maybe whole month, you will be beg for more points. ;-)
