+1 for Chrono Trigger. I don't think FF music was that memorable. I can only remember some from V and VII.
Off-topic: Games with memorable music to me: DKC2 and TLOZ:OOT.

you really need to specify the topic!
i almost had a heart attack because i thought this is about FF7 and 8 are finally released on steam
topic:
overall: final fantasy tactics
musicwise: FF8 (i played so much damn triple triad, it took ages to get all the cards)
this song is burned into my brain

First time I was playing FFVIII when that music played towards the end, I cried manly tears... in a feminine way xD Such a beautiful song.

Man, asking me to pick best FF music is like asking me to pick a favourite child! ...There are some I am not proud of (FFX-2, anything Post FFXII) but other than that Nobuo Uematsu did a great job with scores. (Some good tracks not by Nobuo, but...Mostly meh to downright awful)
If I had to pick a favourite it would be FF4, but then the PS games (VII, VIII + IX) also have some beautiful music...ARGH! And FF1's score is underrated, like Chaos Temple, Matoya's Cave, Gurgu Volcano it all had that...epic adventure feel to it!
My favourite individual piece is this short one from Final Fantasy III (that's III overall, not III as in VI!) Lute of Noah
and Maybe I'm a Lion is my favourite if we're talking remixes, though their Clash on the Big Bridge comes close although Kate Covington does some amazing fan covers. Her acapella cover of the Cleyra theme from FFIX is pretty fantastic.
...I'll stop being a fanboy now.

Final Fantasy VI's, though honestly I prefer Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and Super Mario RPG's soundtracks to any of the Final Fantasies. I didn't quite understand the popularity of FFVII's soundtrack (outside of Still More Fighting, J-E-N-O-V-A and a select few others), mostly because a lot of them had painfully off-key sections like "Shinra Army Wages A Full-Scale Attack".

Kind of. All of these contrasts are dependent on what game in the series you play. Dragon Quest is more manga-like as far as the artistic direction goes, whereas for the most part FF games are more "realistic". I believe all of the DQ games are completely turn-based, whereas there's a few FF titles (like XII, for example) that strays into action-rpg combat. I think the DQ games are almost always longer in terms of gameplay, generally more complex, and requiring much more grinding than the FF series. Plot-wise, I prefer most of the FF titles personally.
Since you've never played a FF before, you should try out FFVI. That's my favorite of the series. It's massive, has tons of playable characters, 3 different worlds, an AMAZING plot, and TONS of sidequests/secrets. Most others would likely tell you to try VII. You may enjoy it more. I dislike it myself. /inb4sacrilege

I played most of them (up to FFXII). And I can say that despite the love for the first ones of the series, my favorites are FVIII and FFIX

Everything Nobuo Uematsu has composed is amazing to me.
But out of all of the final fantasy games, I would have to say 8.

firstly i find it sad that while it clearly says FF music, the first two comments are saying a different game which is un-needed and dumb as the idea was to pick FF games not chrono trigger, no matter how perfect it is in your eyes...
now onto what i see as memorable music in Final Fantasy:
FFX international was the first one i played so it stuck to me like glue
FFVI with the opera scene and ultross was also very memorable to me...
beyond that pretty much anything made for FFXII, FFVII, FFVIII, FFX, FFVI, FF- lets just go with all and save some time... is memorable to me as it was the first series which made me interested in video games even slightly

I'd say Final Fantasy IX had the most memorable OST for me.
Vivi's Theme.
The Place I'll Return To Someday.
Vamo'alla Flamenco.
Dali Village Theme.
Qu's Marsh.
Bulmecia's Theme.
Treno's Theme.
Immoral Rhythm.
Black Mage Village.
Esta Gaza.
Skirmish of the Silver Dragons.
Dark Messenger.
...and my absolute favourite Uematsu piece, You're Not Alone.
Some of the best work he's done, I think.

No, this has nothing to do with either Final Fantasy 7 or Final Fantasy 8.
Well okay, in a form it does, but I'm not talking Steam here.
Actually, what I wanted to know, was to any of those out there who have played any of the games (Or all of them like I have), which ones did you find to have some of the best music or most memorable(And I mean game wise, and not just for a few songs).
Feel free to even list what version (Since chances are, newer versions have had upgraded music, like from the original Final Fantasy for NES which I own to just the Wonderswan version, which upgraded all of the music, and even added in some more, changing the final boss fight from the original battle theme to the very first Final Fantasy epic final boss battle fight song)
To start it off, while I really like most of the music from all of the games, I find the music from Final Fantasy 5/V (PS1 version) the most memorable, and probably some of the best.
Chances are, when Final Fantasy music just seems to edge its way into my brain, it actually tends to be from 5.
TL;DR: LIST THE FINAL FANTASY GAMES THAT YOU BELIEVE HAS THE GREATEST/MOST MEMORABLE SONGS.
