Simulators is an overly broad term. This subgenre is what he's looking for, I think.

Yeah, that does tend to happen. But then again, most games in every genre, not just this one, are disappointing. For genres with many releases, this is not a big problem, as the bad games are forgotten and the good games become representatives of the genre. But when a genre has few releases, these become highly anticipated, and any disappointments are not easily forgotten.

Prison Architect is brilliant, I would urge any fan of similar games to check it out!

I find it disappointing that Introversion decided to scrap their previous project and do this instead. I can only hope that the cutesy graphics are their way of making a statement about the prison industry. The fact that you have to actually perform executions on the inmates... is unsettling.

I hope it doesn't end becoming some de facto Prison Tycoon 4 (i.e. a bad game).

I'm really looking forward to EA's next SimCity... yet I'm sadly convinced that their always online, multiplayer focused direction will tragically kill it.
I still play The Movies occasionally, an excellent game IMO.
Unfortunately there aren't many semi modern Construction/Management games out there anymore, and Prison Architech doesn't sound particularly interesting to me.

Thanks for reminding me to download Smooth Operators from IG9! (✌゚∀゚)☞

Sim Golf was fantastic, and is long overdue an update/sequel.
I still play that game from time to time!

It looks like a lot of fun! I would pick it up if I had the money. To be honest, when I heard about it the other day I got really excited. Started reading about it on the site and didn't bother paying attention to the price until I was long past sold. xD I'll try to pick it up whenever I may have some spare moneys.

I'm now very eager to get Startopia and Dungeon Keeper on GOG. My wallet really dislikes this thread right now.

Okay, so now, with a cynical thought I looked up some interesting tycoon titles, thinking that maybe someone joked about there being a tycoon game for basically anything. The result: I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT THIS SHIT EVEN EXISTS
P.S. is it sick that now I want to play it? Am I such a sucker for hilariously bad stuff?

I am! Here is some gameplay.
Developed by indie British developers Introversion who are responsible for Uplink, Darwinia, Defcon and Multiwinia. Their games tend to be well made and pretty interesting. I'm personally looking forward to this, kinda reminds me of Theme Hospital, and I do like a good management game. Can anyone recommend me some similar games? Management/ base building kinda games.
Here are some I like:
Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2 - Dig tunnels/expand base
Evil Genius - be an evil villain with a lair & minions (yes as good as it sounds)
Theme Hospital - run a hospital
Theme Park - run a theme park
The Movies - run a movie studio
Dwarfs!? - dig tunnels outwards and avoid lava/water/monsters
Sid Meier's Sim Golf - run a golf course, play on it (i loved this, maybe am weird)
Startopia - run/build a space station (more playful than it sounds)
Zoo Tycoon - run and manage a zoo with animals (sequels too)
I'm finding it hard to define these games, most have a form of base building and management, care to recommend anything?
Edit: Prison Architect alpha is out here, they're trying their own sort of kickstarter approach. WARNING: not cheap
