It's free 2 play. The game just launched on the Epic Games Store. It now has true cross play as well(Xbox, Playstation and PC can all play together).

Free to play? No thanks. I have to say, I really dislike the idea of free to play games. All the things we hate so much in modern gaming, like microtransactions, paywalls, game design influenced in a way to make you buy stuff - all that comes from the basic concept of the free to play game. I admit there are a few exceptions. Games that actually give you decent gameplay and don't constantly push you to buy currency, xp boosters and whatnot. But overall f2p is what shaped the current gaming landscape in a way i just don't appreciate. So I stay away from them, and I wish more people would do that. 10 years ago being able to play a game completely for free may have been kind of a big deal. Nowadays we have such a rich pool of heavily discounted high-quality games. Why not just pick something up on sale for 2.5€ and have a great experience. In my opinion there is more than enough to choose from for very little money (also, bundles). No need for f2p anymore, if there ever was one. But I guess I can't judge people for their taste. And there seem to be lots of people who enjoy grindy gameplay and don't mind the consequences of this concept in game design. and that's absolutely fine. Just not my thing personally.
Sorry for the wall of text. Had to get it out of my system, I guess. ;)

I understand and agree to your sentiments. My opinion would be that their target audience are teenagers/students that mostly has a machine that they can play on purchased by their parents but without purchasing power. It adds up to the players/activity numbers though that also adds alot of immaturity and salt into the community. In a way its an investment for those that are hooked to the game when they are adults they may add purchases to the game, though they probably didn't think beyond marketing and player crowd.
I'll say, if you have a group of friends in school whom have all decent machines and you may even have or start a Esport club at school. Could be good, could be bad, depending on nurturing and school work distribution. Certainly we want kids to understand its not all study in school but also understand that they should manage school work properly too. Whilst some excel in other than school work too. Just my 2 cents, :) Cheers~
