You would'nt be, EVERYTHING is blocked. You can hardly do research without most the pages being blocked.

Sounds like something you should make a huge complaint about if you can't actually do your bloody work.

Its no use, Teachers have complained but the Filtering "Is for our own good". Since I'm in 6th form so we have all the yonger people here too.

If someone looks at things they shouldn't, then punish them. Don't make it harder for anyone to actually learn anything in... you know... school. Thankfully, in my school, we actually won that argument, proving that not all people in the education system are pants-on-head retarded...

Eww.. Internet Explorer.

I didn't understand what you were getting at before -as in just after you'd posted the thread- with this since I only saw imgur's overloaded page and assumed you'd got bored of working at college and had spammed imgur or something.

Heh, and I was just raging to the library clerk about the shitty wireless dropping on me every minute, making it impossible to do anything online. Thankfully they gave me an ethernet cable so now it's fine.

Also, when I used to be in halls, I couldn't use Steam nor most applications since the uni's proxy was so tight (yeah, tight's not always good). Nowadays I can do all of that, weirdly.

My college has nothing blocked except porn. Unfortunately. XD

But previously when I was at school, 6th form. YouTube was blocked and nearly every forum website in the planet. We couldn't even Google search for the word analysis because it had the word 'anal' in it. :/

Ha, Yeah we have the same keyword filtering. So stuff like that is blocked too.

You're in 6th form?

I spent a year in 6th form and had one of the worst experiences I have ever had with education. I mean being as a normal student was ok in that school. But, 6th form was very bad. Which is why I left and started college.

The teachers in 6th form couldn't care less about you. Crap equipment, furniture. Hardly any options to choose good subjects. Some subjects were put to an end because of less students. Our common room was taken away. It was a total nightmare.

I've heard many bad feedbacks from 6th forms schools. But if your 6th forms is okay and not bad, then my experience was far the worst. I really don't know why they do 6th forms in the first place. Just angers me I wasted a year of my life, that's all.

Its ok, Just like normal school but a bit more relaxed here. But at least its the last year for me, before uni. I'm on a vocational I.T course so we dont get all the stupid teachers who just don't care.

Our college is trying to be the best 6th form in cornwall, so we arnt that bad off down here.

I used to do a vocational I.T and Business. But when I joined college, I found something new and signed up for a course which I really like, Games Development. My last year here too before I start uni. Can't wait :)

That's cool :) I didn't know there was a degree in games development? My Alevel course is called games development so yeah :P

Hmm, anyway, I've applied for Graphics for games, was about to go into games programming but I enjoyed more of the creative side than technical. :)

Ah nice, The course I applied for only just started this year (Plymouth uni). Only one around me that does this course.. But its mixed, You learn how to code and do art stuff like that... But yeah I'm the same as you, More of the creative art (*cough shameless plug) side, But I want to have experience in all aspects of game design.

That's good. :) And you got some nice models in the webpage of yours. I'm actually in a middle of creating my website so I can't show my work off yet. But I can print screen some stuff I'm doing right now:

Working on my flash animation in Adobe here

and

my dragon in Autodesk Maya here

My dragon just needs texturing. Thinking of using ZBrush for the textures.

And I have a load of concept art just lying about in my room. lol

I'm surprised that a college would actually filter anything. I'm even more surprised that's Orange doing the filtering.

It depends: e.g. Youtube videos are filtered as hell, but that's not a real problem, if you know that I mean ;) And if you know how, you can access to every site. Btw. my first link is only a joke, the offical sites just works for every link and bugs everybody if you want.

Not reeeeeally comparable.. Especially when the blocked keyword definitely isn't anything to do with work ;) Am surprised 'forum' isn't a blocked keyword though, that's a common one.

Schools get in serious trouble if students get to anything dodgy using their systems - not just locally but if questionable pages are accessed at all, by student or staff, it gets flagged and the school gets a phone call. They don't have the staff to handle things flexibly like I would so they pick LOCK DOWN ALL THE THINGS instead. Plus if even the most pointless and unfun flash game ever makes it through the filter, you'll find entire classrooms of kids playing it instead of work -_- Usually sixth form get a lighter set of filters but maybe not in your case.

(Broke my heart to have to tell kids to stop playing a perfect rendition of DOOM in flash during lunchtimes, I was playing that when I was their age but it's got a 15 rating and tends to gather an audience..)

As the filtering systems are linked it might not even be your school that's added the keyword - and yeah there are some hilariously badly-added keywords, by people who don't understand pattern matching.. Stuff like YouTube is both because you can't filter by what's IN the video (and students can easily upload videos from home of any kind), but also for bandwidth reasons if you're at a less well-off college. Even some teachers have to be slapped for using YT like a radio station all day long -_-

no, is not "just like china"...
my college donΒ΄t dilter a single thing, the computers are fucking full of CRAP, viruses spyware, etc... and they HAVE an anti-virus (well is NOD32, probably a fake version of that, because it do nothing)...
so yes, they are filtering things, is bad yes, but is not that bad (no even close from china) preffer that to 10 labs full infected PCs

They can still maintain a relatively virus free system with unblocking the network. Our computers are done server side, all are files are kept on the server and programs loaded from the server, So all they have to do is block being able to download files and do virus scans often.. Basic security.

Not quite true, and your programs don't run server-side but meh, beside the point.. Most viruses schools deal with come from infected USB drives from home computers that're a little less secure!

If a site is actually required for your work and blocked, they'll exclude it from the filters if you actually ask. Just chuck a copy of the block page at them so they can see the URL and the filter that caught it, and preferably a reason why you think it's needed XD

College try to block me every year... i just use an ssh tunnel as a proxy and a software like proxifier or proxycap to force apps to use the local proxy. Then they started blocking ports so i just find an open port each year, last year i was running my ssh server on port 443(https :P) and this year i'm running it on port 53(dns). any good hacker can turn a restricted network to his advantage.
