are the so-called stateless/independent athletes. Can you imagine how is it? Competing for the pure spirit of competition?

I dream of a world where we will not have sports as political platforms or for the sake of defending the colors of a stupid flag which represents nothing, which doesn't say who you are. Sports with athletes who aim to do their best for the sake of self-overcoming, for people who really supported them from the very beginning, not for a lot of people they don't know who only remember their existence when they compete for their country.

For a borderless utopian world without worthless feelings like patriotism and nationalism, when people won't need it to feed their egos and their need for being part of a group.

For short: it will never happen. LOL. GG

I don't think you'll find many people arguing against the idea of a utopia.

Problem is, the 2018 athletes are not stateless, they are scrupulous...unlike the unscrupulous ones that had to stay home. ;)

It amazes me how many people find inspiration from the Olympics and how it makes you dream about a utopia.

I'm sure I could construe that into a message about finding hope in the shittiest places like the IOC.

um, idk, about current winter olympics, but judging from previous ones I don't think independent/stateless athletes would all agree with your point of view. The ones I heard about are competing as such because of bans/suspensions imposed on their countries, not because they are not patriots/don't want to be seen as part of their country. E.g. first independent athelete who won gold medal, Fehaid Al-Deehani, refused to carry IOC flag, saying he will only carry Kuwait flag and his achievement was for the sake of his homeland.

you dream of a world where sports will be even more boring for me than they are now.

I am aware that most of them don't compete without a flag because they want. Even so, it's something very interesting and somewhat exciting for me. Whatever the reason is, I think that's really fantastic to not feel holded by the fact you can't use a flag to compete. After all, sometimes countries don't even do a thing to support the sport or some of their athletes, which makes some of them go living in other countries and get alternative means of raising some money to have some support and structure to train.

It makes me remember of a case of a well-known world class athlete from the country I live who didn't compete in the Summer Olympic Games because if he did, he would have to use the sponsor of the national federation, which never did anything for him, instead of his own sponsor. That was really cool.
