Let's say I have a Dell XPS 15 L521x laptop. When I install USB 3 drivers, from Dell's site, the whole USB hub gets crazy. I can plug in my external HDD only when laptop wants to - it's random whether it will connect or not. Without these drivers everything is normal. How to fix it?

don't install the drivers when you don't need them.
The Windows 7 driver should work fine.

Why the hell drivers fuck shit up. It's not the reason they exist for.

Contact Dell support if you feel that the driver isn't working properly.

"the usb hub gets crazy"
what do you mean by that?
if you mean when u plug in a usb 3 drive to a slot and a usb 2 to another slot. The usb hub would select to work with usb 3 first(always the fastest first ).
So if u are using a usb 3 hdd and a usb 2 mouse. The mouse will not do much work.
But if u plug in a usb 3 HDD to a usb 2 slot that wouldn't do any harm or mess up your mouse or other stuff.

The problem is - it finds my HDD randomly. It doesn't matter whether other gadgets are connected or not.
