did you trade steam item vs steam item aka in trade window? If yes then report and guy may receive trading ban. He will not be able to trade and buy things but will still be able to play what he already own.

If you traded outside of trading window - he sent you a gift for example, Steam does not consider it a trade and a scam. You gave him your items for free.

Nonetheless if you have a proof of transaction - report guy on SteamRep and if he's on SG here as well. Scamming is permaban.

then for Steam it was not a trading nor scam, they won't help you. You would have to put both gift and item into trade window and trade there.

Still worth reporting to SteamRep and SG (if he's on SG that is). Also make screenshots of your trading history and licence history showing that game got revoked and your trade actually happened, because conversation alone is no proof that it did happen.

Was this item even trade able?

There is a reason for gifts having a 30 day trade lock...

If it was not you should have never even did it,and anything outside of Steam is a scam unless you know the person well and trust them.

Never trade outside the trade window, never go first unless you trust the person and have knowing them for some time.

A trade ban removes you from trading and using the market,he is still free to use everything else and play games and use Store and buy gifts and so on.
I just wanted people to be aware they can still try and scam people, then again who would deal with someone with a trade ban on there Steam profile lol

You mean, the gift was revoked?
He can get trading ban if he gets many reports. Also any chargeback will get the account blocked, but he's probably using stolen account ayway. If you used trading window for the exchange, you probably can get your item returned, but if you gifted him skin and he gifted you a game nothing can be done

This. I remember the first time I (almost) got scammed. The guy rushed to delete me from his friend list and blocked me ASAP.

Congrats on avoiding the scam. But in my comment I meant that I handle the situation in order to hide them from around or, to say it better, in order to eliminate them and the evidence of their mysterious vanishing ಠﭛಠ

They get "trade banned" and just open a new account to keep scamming everyone. They also get to keep all the stolen games/items on their old account. Yes, Steam won't refund even "items" now.

It's not really Steam's fault. Or maybe yes, but the solution is not putting people to track items and games and "refunding" them to the original owner, but making people wary of these kind of situations (something that they are trying to acomplish).

It's Steam's fault for not making harsher punishments. IP ban scammers, delete their Steam account, sue them I don't know DO SOMETHING. Trade ban has no effect on anything. Steam just tries to get rid of their responsibilities by saying "look we did something lol cya".

I agree with the IP ban thing, but deleting a steam account should only be done under extreme circunstances. Why? Because a lot of accounts that are used for scamming people, are hijacked accounts! It's not like if scammers get games, high level accounts and a long history of publications in a few days in new accounts.

Literally nothing 90% of the time, even if something does happen they make a new account/move on to the next stolen account. I'v never been scammed but i think it's best to not dwell on it too long and move on with your life, that's what i'd do anyway. Sorry you got scammed.

Steam doesn't do jack shit to scammers, just report them a ton but it wont do anything that I noticed. All it will probably do is let others know the scammer is not to be trusted.

It's a risk you take if you trade. Just be careful and hope for the best.

Standard things to do:
-rep him on steamgifts
report him on steamrep with proof
open a ticket on steam support and report him there too with proof
report him normally from the report option in his profile (yes, it works too if he'll get a lot of reports, believe me)

If somebody scam you , what happens to that guy?

They get your stuff, and laugh at the same time

Steam no longer gives items back regardless if you used trade window or not you are SOL,just learn from it.

P.S. you can still report them for a scam, and maybe get them trade banned.
