I thought every member was awarded 1 point for each giveaway created (regardless of public, private, group, red, or green contributor value) for a max of 300.

At least, that is my understanding of it. What's 5% mean?

How often does it take for you to build up points? It seems like I get around 300 points a day, but it's hard to say, because I keep steamgifts.com bookmarked, and I have the Android app. So I check the site and enter giveaways 2-3 times a day. I just got on after, I dunno, 11-12 hours since I last got on (and drained my points) and I had 112.

You should note that higher-point giveaways are a bust. You have no greater chance of winning them, and they cost you more points. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is/was $2.99 -- just buy it! Then add it to your filter so you never see it again. I think the Augmented Edition is only $4.49? If that sale is over, usually all the good sales come back on the last day, so check back on the 22nd (and every day in between).

Your points are generated as games are given away. Less giveaways=less points.

Edit: Actually your problem may be entering a GA for Infestation/Warz I hear it depletes your points instantly.

Out of curiosity. How did you get the "win chance"?

I almost always have 300 points because there's so few giveaways I would like to enter. There's currently only 14 giveaways I'm interested in.

If people make less giveaways, there will be less points to everyone.

It's tempting to enter all the "big" giveaways we can. One thing I have to keep reminding myself, do I actually want to play this game? Or should I leave it for someone who might enjoy it more?

What's the fun of entering the high-cv stuff for better odds, if it's something you wouldn't even buy for 1 dollar? I mean, is the point to get a fun new game to play, or just to pad the steam library with random junk? Ok, don't answer that. :)

You're right.. I have only 280 point left, it hasn't been that low since yesterday at least.

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.steamgifts.com. This is the main thing I get lately trying to use the site. Maybe this is a problem for people trying to give away games as well.

It's because there haven't been many bundles recently. (They probably don't want to compete with the Steam summer sales.) A huge number of giveaways come from people who buy a bundle for some games, but already have one or two, and give them away here as a result. The Steam Summer Sale makes up for this, but not as a much as you think.

Bundles are just a much bigger source of giveaways, because even people who don't usually want to spend money just to give away a game tend to end up with spare stuff when there's lots of bundles running, which they give away.
