is 1-3 hours way to short for a GA?
Yay but if only I can see them in time :p
I try to set them to at least 24 hours to give every time zone a chance.

I prefer longer ga's, at least 24 hours, and I make mine usually abour a week long ir more. Some people seem to like flash ga's, but since I always miss them, I'm not a fan.

I like flash giveaways because it means better chances of winning. But 24 hours is the way to go if you want to reach every time zone.

Depends on your intentions and the game itself. Put a Fallout 4 GA up without any restrictions, and you'll get 3-5000 people in it in 1 hour. Put some 1-dollar shovelware up with level 1 for 1 hour, and you may not even get 5 people on it.
If you want to reward those who hang around this site all day and are in your time zone, go for short ones.
If you want to give chance for others living at other parts of the world, make it 24 hours at least.
If you want to make sure to reach the largest amount of people so they can participate, but don't want to overdo it, make it 3-5 days and make sure it covers the weekend.
If you want to see your name on the main page for long and are interested in how many users can get onto one GA, get 50 keys of some semi-decent game and make it a public GA for 4 weeks. :)
As for me, I usually make GAs around Wednesday evening and make them run until 19 UTC on Sundays.

Don't forget that if you want to have more precise control of the target audience, you can always use groups. Not just GA groups that are so common here, but you can use public groups centered around a game series, genre… or you can follow a specific game on Steam, and add its "group", so only those who also actively follow the game can see it. (For example, you make a Skyrim GA for those who follow that game on Steam. Since you can follow any game even if you don't own it, any in many cases people do that, you can almost make a wishlist-specific GA for those who want that game badly.)
This has the added benefit of making sure people who may actually be interested in the game can see it, not just random game hoarders. Plus these groups are often quite large, so nobody can say the selection of those who have access to it is some form of elitism. (Again, a recurring complaint about the invite-only GA groups.)

Start with a genre or something centered on a game series.
Or join an open GA group. But they are practically the same people who make up the average users here, so you aren't really doing anything specific apart from increasing your group GA count against the public ones.

With groups I like slow GA though
it builds the tension

Make giveaways the way you want.
There's no right or wrong to it, especially in this context.
Short giveaways get a LOT more attention from me, when I see them.
If your concern is reaching other timezones, don't forget you can set giveaways to start in the future, as well- thus you could set 24 giveaways, one per hour, for a day of 1 hour flash giveaways.
There's any number of ways of going around it, and it all depends on your own preferences.
From the perspective of the entrants, it's just a different set of conditions of luck, nothing more :P

Short GAs keep me away from sleeping. :-(
My question here is really simple, what do you think is the right duration for a GA?
At least one day for GAs that aren't crap like Uncrowded or Despair.
should i continue the way i do, or should i start making my GA's longer?
Make it longer. But in the end all that matters is that you do what you like to do.
how long do you make your Ga's`?
10 inches. Err, I mean at least one day, if it isn't a bad game.
The less people that can join the longer the GA. For example if I pick only whitelist then I took 3 or 4 days.
Thanks.

For public giveaways: I do one hour high level quickies quite often, I really like them, because they provide good chances for the participants. Sometimes though I decide to go for three hours or even a day, but I rarely host them longer than that.
For private/whitelist/group giveaways: these rarely go under three days for me, most of the times even up to a week, to give everybody of the lovely people a chance to enter.

Your poll option is confusing. Your thread title says "Short GAs. Yay or nay?"
Your poll asks "Is 1-3 hours way too short?"
So your poll question is the opposite of your thread title.
But your poll options are 'Yay' and 'Nay' which refers directly to the thread title. Even the '!!!' and ':c' adds to that.
In other words, I have absolutely no idea what to answer.

You changed yor question. Thread: Yay for shorties.
Poll: Nay, 3 hours is not too short.

My question here is really simple, what do you think is the right duration for a GA?
reason i'm asking is that over the past month i have been hosting a lot of GA's that only lasted 1-5 hours, and i want to know what the community thinks of this, should i continue the way i do, or should i start making my GA's longer?
how long do you make your Ga's`?
