Like everybody said L.A.Noire. When i played it I feel like it was pretty good, but after I finished the game and played another one I realised how good the facial animations really are :D

It's been awhile since I've played it, but I feel like BRINK had good facial animations (high quality, although they looked cartoonish in shape and what not (like their heads don't have the same proportions of normal humans, but regardless, the textures and shapes are well done)). If you especially considered it's an action oriented shooter and not a story based game, I felt like the facial models/detail was above and beyond to compared to most others

Devil May Cry 3 ...
i don't even know if trolling or serious , but i actually remember the facial expressions were good enough at the time :D

Agreed with everything OP said.
Witcher 1 is pretty static in regards to facial animations, Witcher 2 is better, but facial animations are sometimes still a bit clumsy. Faces and eyes in Witcher 2 look very nice though.
Elizabeth's animations are very nice, all other characters are lacking this vividness and are mostly lifeless. That's specially felt during the first "peaceful" levels in Bioshock Inifinite and first level in "Burial at Sea - Part 1" DLC.
Agreed on Psychonauts as well, a brilliant hell of a game and the characters are simply amazing!
Half-Life 2 + Team Fortress 2 + Portal 2 still have the best facial animations of all. Oldie Source rocks the house!

Everything aside, the animations in L.A. Noire had to be perfect since we had to determine just by the npc's behavior and facial expressions if he/she was lying or not.
In most of the games the "not in game" parts hade pretty much neat facial animations, but in L.A. Noire you were playing with those! -Was kinda fun to play it- Since - on my opinion- you really were playing a dedective who was trying to figure out the expressions, facial animations and evidence to get the person behind bars!
They were the finest for me )(

Yeah - L.A.Noire was the best when it comes to facial animation and apart from The Telltale games i felt Dragonage orgins too had pretty good facial animation. Anyone dragon age orgins?

Watch Dogs came up on Steam, and it was the first time I saw the trailer. It was very intriguing, and although I don't think it's a preorder from me, I'm sure it'll be a game I'll be playing down the road.
The only thing that irked me was the facial animation, which was so-so at best.
I find bad facial animation to be a consistent thing in games, and I was wondering if anyone had played anything with really good animations. I find facial animations to be very important for emotional impact. Nothing ruins a mood better than a Herr Woodenkopf staring at the screen. Ugh.
From what I've played, the two DF games, Psychonauts and Brutal Legend, were pretty good. Portal 2 was pretty impressive, considering that most of the characters were just a mechanical eye ball. Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite was very good as well, but the rest were pretty off in a way that I didn't like. Tomb Raider and Witcher 2 are things I'd rather not talk about much. TellTale Games, on the other hand, are masters at facial expressions. It is amazing.
So anything out there people want to show me?
Thanks!
