Valve finally updated their regional pricing recommendations. This won't be applied to the prices automatically and the updates expected from the publishers.

The most affected countries are Argentina and Turkey but for EU ~20% increase is still not low.

The price changes can be seen in this table:

Edit: More detailed prices can be seen here. (Thanks to @AndyFrost)

Honestly fcking sucks to be from argentina

not only our currency is fcked and getting worse but also the government.

right now with the 75% tax and it becoming 90% tax because new laws they are waiting to approve, i wouldn't be surprised if by next year we get to pay over 100% tax.

also in some forums about gaming there were people from Germany complaining 'why are argentina's prices increasing >:C'

people abusing from VPN is the cherry on top for the gaming community over here.

frustrating and depressing from any point you wanna see it :/

have a cute axolotl to balance the mood

That's sad to hear. :(
Crappy governments issue crappy taxes, here is the exact same story with many things, just not on Steam yet. Not sure how VPN abusing currently affecting this (it's not so possible nowadays I think) but it sure had a really bad influence over some companies that they don't use Valve's recommended prices.

That cute axolotl has a high ping. :)

Couldn't agree more, I really hate watching news lately, almost every one of them is a bad news and not just economically. It feels like people lost their minds.

Yeah they're so cute. I would love to even see one and just watch for a moment. :)

No sign of the Bolivian Peso, despite almost all countries around us being featured

Does Bolivia have a regional Steam site? If it doesn't, then it's not affected by the change because it follows international pricing.

By the way, just wondering, does Steam charge in your local currency by converting over USD or you have to pay directly with USD? Here GOG charges directly with USD and Humble and Fanatical convert to local pricing while still charge with USD.

It charges directly with USD. Not only do I have to deal with a higher price compared to local purchasing power, but I also need to pay currency conversion fees. Fanatical does offer to display prices in local currency, but I have it set to USD since that's what's going to be charged anyway.

That's sad to hear. Before Steam's regional prices here, I had to pay directly inside of the bank by using dollar banknotes or buying dollar from the bank (which is more expensive than an exchange office) because I do not use a credit card and also do not have a dollar account. And I know that conversion fees suck.

I hope you get regional pricing too. Buying directly with USD is tough, especially in this economic situation.

yep, on the same boat here, prices are the same as the US and also have to deal with currency conversion, fortunately at least i can take advantage of regional external stores, like nuuvem, but not all Steam games are featured on these stores.

So far I noticed just one game on my wishlist using new price system - Hobo tough life. Considering it is game which should never leave early acess, it will probably hurt them on sales.

I only noticed a handful of games too but judging by the speed I fear it won't take long.
Depends of that game's users' demography it might affect huge to little, if most of the users are from Argentina the effect will surely be huge.

So they have 28 days cooldown until the next sale...
Are games which already have sale discount now safe from price hike until Fall Sale?

Yeah, Brazilian prices got a 50% hike.
But we aren't earning more money and salaries haven't increased.
The only advantage I can see is that it can stop some absurd price increases that have already been happening since the beggining of the year - some publishers out of nowhere changed prices and the increase was far bigger than 50%.

In the 90s and 00s my country was a pirate's paradise, based on bootleg consoles, copying gaming CDs... can see that happening again unfortunately, and to think we are one of Steam's biggest markets :/

Forza Horizon games have doubled their prices. At least it's not %400 like most of other games.

Welp, there goes any hope for buying stuff during the next sale, 480% increase in prices basically means that buying from Steam is no longer viable for us Argentinians. I'll probably check what's on sale right now and try to get some things before the prices skyrocket.

And maybe you will finally consider to change a government to reduce gaming taxes. Oh Gaben...

Gaming taxes are the least of my worries to be frank, I want a change of government because our current one is incredibly incompetent and corrupt. Our current vice president, who's also a former president because getting rid of that woman is apparently impossible, is accused of multiple charges and going through a trial as we speak. I really don't get why so many people keep voting for that damned party despite the fact that they've been fucking up every time they win, and this madness has been going for over half a century.

Now and probably winter may be the last time to enjoy your regional prices. Do your shopping now, as devs are already hiking entire catalogues. Forza skyrocketed after its sale, for example. (ops, already posted above, didn't see)

As epic store resistant as many may be, Epic now has better regional pricing than steam. Something to consider.

And for steamgifts, well, this may be another "nail in the coffin" for real steam gifts - price increases may stop direct store purchases, i fear.

I think Epic will change their regional pricing as well but they might use this as an advantage for now. Though some people won't use Epic ever, not sure about the younger generation.

Though some people won't use Epic ever, not sure about the younger generation.

Nah man, it's just us old generations who are deeply connected to Steam. After 3+ years of free games, Fortnite, and nowadays RocketLeague and other free2play stuff that are exclusive there, my students look down on Steam keys I wanna share with them for the last day of school or NYE and always aks if I have something for Epic instead.

It's not even weird if you think about it, you're a kid in some country outside EU/USA/CA and you can't earn money by "mowing the lawns", your parents paycheck isn't enough to pay the bills and wound's afford 2-3 major games even if you spent it all, and then Epic gives you 2-3 games per month for free, and good games at that... and all your friends play Fortnite... so... what store do you side with? One where you have all your friends and 250 games... or Steam?

With an information from inside, it seems tides might change in the near future. When these students finally start earning money, it's most likely that even bundle sites will sell Epic keys, like in 10 years. Mayhap that was their plan since the beginning, young people would surely accept free offers. So Epic probably already don't care about people like us huh?

Like a year ago I said on reddit that Epic isn't trying to steal us from Steam, they are grooming a new generation of gamers to be Epic-centric instead... and got a lot of heat about "grooming" being a sexual word, while my point was not even considered. Oh well.

As a person who didn't know the sexual meaning of it until I check urban dictionary, I think what you said is on point and the word fits. Though it seems there is an increase usage of the sexual meaning lately, so they jumped to your post with the first meaning they can think of. Well, Reddit can be really weird some times.

While a little inflation adjustment is completely understandable Valve went above and beyond taking the opportunity to hit countries with the most virtual player "immigrants" like Argentina and Turkey. We'll see very soon if this was a prudent decision in times of people struggling to pay for their daily necessities.
Game keys don't heat your home or fuel your car and you can't eat them. I predict a humongous increase of ship traffic on the 777 seas.

Argentine here, not only this is absurd but we already have to pay 75% more due to taxes, which makes some small games to have an equal price to AAA games. From another point of view, I understand the need to adjust some prices because they were extremely low (I feel bad especially because I buy a lot of indies and I like to support the devs), but others are just plain unnecessary. I'm not a big fan of har har har, but cash is scarce nowadays and every peso counts.
