About 2 days ago I made a thread titled "Would you rather more "thank you!"s or less?". The gist of it was trying to find out whether people usually like or dislike "thank you" messages on their giveaways. The large majority of voters said that they'd like for less comments of that nature to be left on their giveaways (130 people (54%) said they'd rather see them completely gone while 37 people (15%) said that they'd simply like to see less of them. Almost 70% in total!) I was thinking about restricting comments as an option but found it is very harsh and could stop people from giving valuable info and or kind words. Seeing as that isn't really an option I was contemplating it and reading comments on the thread and saw a particular comment that caught my eye with a brilliant suggestion (from @IAmKingOfAll), A "thank you" button! This way, the people commenting "thank you" would be able to show their gratitude without blowing up the giveaway author's message list and creating animosity among people who think they're weak "bot-like" replies.
And yes, as we can't control the bot comments, they'll surely always be there, even if they become less frequent they'll still be there. But! Even if people get lots of bot comments, they'll still be able to have that "Thank You" / "Like" indicator as a secondary gauge of whether people enjoyed seeing that particular game being given away or not. To add to my point, This thread which is 8 years old at this point was also asking for the exact same thing (a "thank you" button) for the same exact reasons! Important to note that the poll on this 8 year old post is in line with the poll on my more recent post, the majority of people saying they'd like it if this idea was implemented. (345 people (53%) were positive while 237 were negative (36%), the remaining percentages being neutral) It's been almost a decade and things have not changed in the slightest in that regard. People are stiill complaining about generic bot comments on their giveaways and those same people who are leaving comments like that as a default have no other real alternative...

TL;DR: I would strongly suggest adding a "thank you" button in order A. to avoid unneeded spam, B. for people to have a different more easy way to show gratitude to the author as a complimentary addition rather than having only a single option to interact (comments). C. to have a way to thank people for their giveaways while preventing / lessening the chance of authors and other joiners to see those generic copypasta comments and have an unpleasant time reading them.

Notes: The way I see it, the button (a heart or maybe a green box saying "Thank You!") would have a separate list section on giveaways (such as this) and would list all the people who left a like/thank you on the giveaway. It would not alert the user directly, either alerting them of the number of entrants to thank them along with the message that the giveaway has ended, shown on the thread itself in the separate section mentioned above or on the "Giveaways Created" section like so. As I am well aware of the fact that UI design is not my strong suit, these are merely suggestions :)

I think it's a matter of upbringing. My parents taught me as a little child to say "thank you" if I got a gift.

Winning a game in a giveaway and express your gratitude = shows social competence and politeness.

Commenting "thank you blabla" when participating in a giveaway = you're using an autojoin script with high probability and are incompetent in using it which is demonstrated by not turning off the tell-tale thank you spam.

Of course there are genuine comments on giveaways too but those are spotted easily as they deal with a distinct topic normally.

It really is just common decency to thank someone for winning. I usually try my best to add onto that when I have stuff to say so that they feel it went to the right person :)
But yes, commenting when participating I feel should either have actual substance or it shouldn't be left there at all but regardless of what I think, it's still gonna be a regular thing... ; - ;

Besides the 8 year old suggestion about the same thing, it gave, at least, 1 more time the same suggestion/wish.
Cg not done something in all the years, this should show that it don't have a prioriety for him.

That auto thanks messages are allowed is, from my point of view, actively supporting autojoining because the mods lose one possibility of evidence(s) for autojoining.
This shows too that it isn't of interest for cg to limit the spam messages and that nothing will happen.

The thanks spam are counted as activity and activity let cg earn money.
Easy and sad as that.

And because only the few comments from real users would change to the button clicking, the autojoiners with activated thanks script would still spam the comments, the change would nearly have no effect.
Besides the fact that the most people would like to get comments from real users and don't want the comments from the autojoiners with activated thanks scripts.
So it tries to solve the problem at the wrong end.

Huh. Makes sense.
Guess I might've just spent 45 minutes for naught but I feel better with myself for bringing up the issue so atleast there's that XD

Well apparently I voted 'no' on that poll 8 years ago so I'm gonna have to oppose this motion yet again for the sake of consistency. After all, who am I to contradict my past self on his judgement...

Ok, I'll admit, that was a bad attempt at a joke. But in all seriousness I still think adding a "thank you" button would be counterproductive, let me try to explain my point:
If an option to thank someone that only requires a single click is introduced it could be perceived by many as a sort of mandatory thing, after all it would only require a minimal amount of effort on the part of the user entering the giveaway, which could lead to what essentially would be a highly automated system that actually benefits those using scripts and not those trying to genuinely thank the giveaway creator. It could even result on some sort of inverted perception by some where if you click the "thanks" button they'll assume that entry to be a bot, or some other equally weird social dynamic developing over time.
Also, at that point why bother, of course I'm gonna be thankful to the person creating a giveaway that I consider good enough to enter, it's kind of implicit, isn't it? Might as well replace it with a "like" or "thumbs up" button if the whole idea is to send a message to the creator that you wanna see more of that.
And finally, the fact that this requires CG to implement a new thing that keeps track of the info and adds to the overall size of the data stored per GA gives me the impression that they won't bother doing it. I've always been under the impression that CG tries to minimize the size that SG occupies on the server rather than increase it.

Reply to your own comment: 2 days suspension for posting spam.
Use bot to post actual spam: we don't have enough evidence. Must be normal user behavior.

SG mods in nutshell.

Basically - give up. CG doesn't care.

1.) To use a auto thanks script is allowed.
2.) The messages aren't seen as SPAM because "they are related to the GA".
So in short, they don't check something there.

Trust me i tried everything and it is a bad joke to get then answers like the 2 above from the mods (that maybe only act as cg told them to do).

I got suspended for advising to use sgtools to check the winners and to use a min. level for public GAs to lower the number of joining cheaters .... this was not seen as "related to the GA" (with a much lower amount of messages as the auto thanks script post their thanks spam)
