I wanna try to make a lets play. Is there any software that's actually COMPLETELY free that can do that?
Yes, i have searced the web. I did not find anything of use.

Making a list of good free recording software here is not only good for me, but for anybody else on SteamGifts trying to find free recording software! ;)

GOGOGO! :D

For some reason it records only first few seconds then just freezes from recording video and keeps the same frame in video until the end, audio records fine.

The quality isn't that bad? Really? I thought it was a miracle that I found a great recording software. After when I looked at the videos any time I moved it got pixelated and just looked terrible. What are your settings on?

It's awesome and can also record things that you cannot download (because you can record ANYTHING that is on your screen.) If only I could get someone to log in to Netflix on my computer...

You can just google it, they do exist... but doesn't mean they're good, because most of them drain the hell out of your machine.

Nvidia Shadow play is free. Only works with Nvidia graphics cards that is gtx 650 or up

Might want to add, that this software actually uses a dedicated video encoder that is on the graphics card (physical chip cos of the Kepler architecture), and therefore has very little performance drain

Some Nvidia cards (600+ series, I think including mobile, possibly even older) will run Shadowplay, even if they don't support it; you can launch Geforce Experience using a shortcut with -shadowplay on the end and it should work fine.

Permalink

They don't officially support ShadowPlay though. The first mobile GPUs that support ShadowPlay are the new 800M series

^This. I've used it on some pretty intensive games (Arkham Origins and Titanfall) at max settings and had no hiccups, unlike a program like FRAPS.

It should be noted for those not familiar with it, NVIDIA ShadowPlay is a feature of the GeForce Experience application, so just install the latter.

Also, it saves your videos in a common format. (mpeg4, iIrc) making it easier to edit and the files stay (relatively) small.
Used play claw 3 before, files were thrice as big, @same length and quality

Yes, i have searced the web. I did not find anything of use.

So, what did you find that doesn't suite your needs? Otherwise people will make listings of things you already looked at. And it also shows you actually did search for it, instead of just saying so.

Open Broadcaster, Livestream Procaster, there's not a huge list of free choices. The best way to look for choices is to google using the words "recording open source" because anything open source is probably free (not 100% true, but very few projects try to be open source and sell units at the same time; given that the software source is available for others to use). Now that having been said, I find that the most overused software (FRAPS) is not only overly expensive, but legitimately the worst software nowadays and has a huge performance hit. Their solution to this problem is to simply throw more hardware at the problem, rather than optimize the software.

So despite what all the kids normally use, you should probably blaze your own trail.

+1, moved to Afterburner after years of Fraps, it's heaps better, you can choose what endcoder to use and (depending on the encoder somewhat) it hardly has any impact on FPS when recording

Comment has been collapsed.

I've made a few simple tests with it and I have one question.
Does it have an option of recording the game music(system sounds) and the input voice
or you need to mix the input into system sounds for that?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Do you mean playing a music in background while playing a game? I think it doesn't support that, and I'm not sure about the input voice.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I meant recording your voice talking (useful for lets plays), it seems to have option of switching between voice recording device and system sounds but unfortunately not both.

So the only way is mixing the recorded voice into system sounds -> you hear yourself talking while playing and this annoys me a bit, I think I'll drop RazorGameBooster for such things.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I see. Well I don't talk when I reacord my gameplay. But yep, what you said is very helpful when making a tutorial. And too bad it doesn't have that feature. :(

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

NVIDIA ShadowPlay (within GeForce Experience) has this ability...you can even control whether to record your voice or not, and you can even set whether to have yourself appear on camera in a little box (which you can position and size) or not, if you have a camera set up. Has Twitch streaming too.

BUT you need a GTX 650 or better.

TBH you can always very easily get the "crack" for FRAPS from YouTube tutorials or even piratebay without much tech know-how, but if you're really looking for the legit free software,
MSI afterburner will help you.

Is all torrenting pirating?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No. Piracy in this sense means "the unauthorized use or reproduction of another's work." A lot of people put their own stuff on torrent sites to make their stuff (game, music, software, etc) more accessible. Also, theres a lot of free things that people make into torrents. Its not piracy if what you're downloading is free to begin with. And some companies (I remember Nintendo doing this with Pokemon) put roms out for free on the honor system that only people who have purchased the game will use them, although I forget what the exact purpose was. But in short, no not all torrenting is pirating.
