Funny thing. I posted a link to a couple of giveaways that are invite only (not visible in searches on steamgifts.com) on the rpgwatch.com forums. The crazy thing is they've been up for 5 hours and not 1 single entry! It's rpgwatch.com for crying out loud, a site dedicated to RPGs. It says so right in the name. They watch RPGs. Maybe they're like those watchers in the Highlander series where they watch but don't interfere or something. 0 entries... in 5 hours... The community at steamgifts.com has been much more supportive of Tanzia with a lot of people loving the art style, people saying they love open world 3D RPGs (me too!), and everyone just generally really liking the game so far. So I figured I'd give everyone here a heads up. If you're still looking for a copy of Torchlight II or Dragon Age: Origins, swing by the thread on RPG watch. A cautious yes for me. Graphics looks nice and the music reminds me of Chrono Cross somehow. :/
Just checking though, are you looking to launch into EA or straight for v1.0 release because I might ignore the game altogether if it launches into EA. (No offense but I'm trying to cut down on EA games in my library.)

We're still debating on EA. The debate currently is going something like this:
The cash flow would help us make a better game. That's just fact and that's why a lot of developers do it I think. I've seen some EA games that are kind of a mess and we definitely don't want to do that. As a small indie developer putting out that first project, we really feel like that first impression is critical. So we want everything pretty polished, playable, and fun before we put it out there even for something like EA. Tanzia is currently playable with complete or close to complete environments through about 50% or 60% of the game (7 zones out of 13 planned). From what I've seen, some developers would post it on EA in its current state. We're just looking at that first impression as critical like I said, so the way we're leaning right now is that if we do an EA it would probably be when the game is much closer to complete. It would be more like a short pre-release Beta.
I'd really like to hear more about your thoughts on Early Access. We've been talking about this just recently so I'd be really interested in hearing what anyone else thinks too.

I'm not against EA if done right tbh (coughSpacebaseDFcough) but even if a game is done right, you do risk your player base being burned out with playing the bugged game before even the game release. Then when you're busy releasing the game, some of those player base would've already moved on to a newer shinier game and had forgotten about your game. Which technically would suck if the only memory they had of your game is a buggy incomplete game, even if it is playable.
Ultimately these players when they hear your studio's name or the game's name at the very least would have a "meh" impression in the future.
For me personally, I'd say skip the EA if you can. It would save you in the long term. Worst comes to worst, if you really need the cash, publish in EA with a clear indication that the game will be released in 1-2 months time, that's it. If you really need first impressions/feedbacks, get some beta testers (don't even have to pay for beta testers these days, just churn out a couple of free copies for them).

I don't think a 3-year old would really be able to play Tanzia very well. A 7-year old would probably have fun with it though!

well the trailer and screenshots aren't really explicit. screenshots are numerous but almost all the same. all we see is beach, bridge and jingle, without much of self-explanataining.. look at the very 4 last screenshots.. it's too much really.. you don't need to pick a screenshot every 0.1 second (exaggerating there).. that's against-effective for advertising and giving a good image of the game overall no matter its quality.. screenshots must be very different with eachother and have different schemes and overall colors.. must show different things, and get straight to an idea or a feature of the game, without spoiling it
the UI is too big and too glossy and doesn't fit well with what we see from the game world.. decrease its scale by half and bum you already improve the game.. and what are those huuuuge icons to the left ? if you want players to feel good in your game then don't make them feel that what seem to be "PAUSE", "SKILLS", "ACHIEVEMENTS" and "HELP" in front of their faces all the game. you said it wasn't designed for 3-years old but c'mon, really ? unless and even you want these icons to be part of the game (like, if the world's too empty and player needs them to not feel alone lol), you should make them smaller and not put them in the sides.. it completely goes against logical rules set for peripherical vision of the player that are important for a game experience in a 3D adventure game.. put them on an horizontal ligne at the top of the screen for example, or simply hide them.. i guess people can leave without an huge "HELP" icon next to their character all the time..
now as for the world itself.. the trailer doesn't really show much either. is the world that sad ? it looks like a small vacation island and yet there are almost only dark green grass and sad trees everywhere and everything looks the same. you could put flowers and overall vegetation variation to add life into your game and improve the positive player feels.. also the video trailer is pretty.. worthless ? and like for screenshots, pretty against-effective. you show clips here and there and yet it shows nothing, and more, it shows things the wrong way confuses potential buyers/customers/players because you put things that are out of contex and not self-explanatory that will make people wonder what's going on without trying to actually find what, leaving them with a "huh what a mess" impression of the game, and even more of yourself as a developers
it's efficient for a launch to advertise your game and pick a few thumbs up for your vote by giving away other games than yours but it's not much likely that having a good game to show and to play in the first place would screw you
edit : yeah watched the trailer a second time and the only thing i see is mobs running after you and a hand-controlled camera in the opening. that's something bad to show, it looks cheap. and the youtube advertising for your website right off the start of the video is irritating for the viewer. if someone wants to learn more about the game he'll check it up on google or something. prompting such a button will make people go away more than attract them. put a link in description it's perfect, don't bother with on-screen ads
