But what about if you want to warn people about it? Like, you got to tell people what they shouldn't click on etc. I wasn't gonna post anything quite like it, I'm just curious.

Wasn't going to, never do that anyway. Oh well, whatever.

there are massive numbers of these links posting one doesn't help anyone but the phishers.
also saying don't click X link. they may think scammer like Y is ok. best to just say don't install untrusted exe's (so far i've seen steamguard & adobe addons being the infectors) and be careful where you log into steam from.

then you may explain people what phishing is without giving a link. because it doesnt matter if you will link them to steamconnnunity or steamcomnunity or whatever - what difference does it make? they all work the same. You can easily warn people without giving a link, only difference is that if you give a link someone may accidentally click it without reading it, or click it out of curiousity without for example having addblock / antivir / antispyware and get himself scammed.

True, that's why I would post a screenshot if I had to so you cannot "accidently click" but wbarton isn't even allowing that. But - once again - I wasn't going to post anything of that sort, this is just a "what-if question".

This thread should be stickied.. some people might not know the rules about posting phishing links , and complain they got suspended unfairly..

Thumbs up.
This is one of those things moderators don't need brought to their attention. They're already watching for it.

There is no way for a random user to know this is a notice from moderation/admin and not just some random thread (if they even clicked on it), provided it's even on page 1.

I think the parts where I mention suspending people and the 'support' tag next to my comments in the thread should get the idea across to anyone actually looking. As far as its appearance in the forum, I can't really do anything about that. And really, this is one of those things that should be common sense anyway. Why would we tolerate people posting phishing links? Might as well put a big banner on the front page inviting phishers to come ply their trade here.

since when phishing is the new that need to be announced Barton... since phishing is old as the internet itself, you just need to find and "Blam" the phisher

Phishing attempts are not new, and running off to the forum to post about it every time you encounter one is completely unnecessary. Furthermore, posting the link in text or screenshot is unconscionably negligent. The only legitimate reason to ever post a phishing link is if you are working in cooperation with the phishers.
Going forward, I will be suspending anyone who posts phishing links in the forum in any way, regardless of intent. Consider yourselves warned.
UPDATE: I've had to suspend two people since this went up, so apparently people are not paying attention. Don't be a careless idiot and post things that could bring harm to other users.
