XCOM is about building a base, managing resources, and (in difficulties past Easy) doing your best in bad situations.
You get to research technologies and build a variety of things. Soldiers have a very basic RPG-esque scheme to them that can make tactics a bit more dynamic.
Mission types vary, some requiring simple brute force eradication of enemies, and other are more objective oriented.
The game is great and certainly something I'd recommend if you enjoy turn based combat strategy. Even the original XCOM games are still good enough to play, as is the remake (which is the XCOM you are talking about).
Playing any of them now will give you a good understand of the franchise when the new one releases later.

Hello, I've seen today in promo at Nuuvem (arround U$10 the complete pack is cheap right?) and really thinking in buying it. I've played some strategy games, and like to know the differences between xcom and others turn based strategy games (like omerga, breach & clear) and if it's still worth's a buy (even with the new xcom to be launched at november)
Thanks in advance
