I don't really chat much here on steamgifts, but thought I'd say hi and pose a question to the community :)

Basically, I'm looking for isometric top-down games with puzzle solving, platforming and exploration elements like those seen in Guardian of Light and Darksiders Genesis. Should they be twin-stick shooters on top of it, I'll call it a bonus, but it's not a requirement. If you guys know any more games like these I'd really appreciate it if you could share them!

So, the games I'm looking for should ideally have as many of the following elements as possible...:

  • isometric camera or fixed top-down camera
  • puzzle solving
  • platforming
  • exploration
  • twin-stick shooting

... but NOT be:

  • Diablo clones
  • hack and slash games that are not focused on puzzle solving
  • open world

Thanks in advance to everyone!

Would you like to see more games like "Lara Croft: GoL" and "Darksiders Genesis"?

At a first glance it seems to be missing my beloved puzzle elements, but it definitely looks interesting and I'll be looking up extended gameplay on youtube for it soon. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to look up that list, but sadly I was on that very same page a couple of days ago and aside from the ones I already mention on the topic title, none of the others play the same. They're all mostly ARPGs-- and don't get me wrong, I love me some ARPGs (Path of Exile and Torchlight 2 are two of my most played games ever), but unfortunately not what I'm looking for. Thank you so much once again, though! :)

I played some Helldivers with my housemate on her Playstation around the time it came out and while it was fun, it's definitely not what I'm looking for at the moment. Thank you again, though :) Good game!

I'm... not sure if it's anything like them since I haven't played those games, but "top-down game with puzzle solving, platforming and exploration elements" immediately makes me think "CrossCode". Its combat is a mix of both melee and ranged though, so not sure if it can be called a twin stick shooter. And I feel like the games you mentioned are probably a lot less story and RPG focused.

Well, you can check out the demo if you think it looks like something you might like. :) Oooor, I could have checked your Library to see that you already have CrossCode and played it a little. Sorry, but I can't think of any other games like that right now (which you haven't already played). :/

Hi there, thank you so much for your reply. Yeah, CrossCode looked amazing, which is why I gave it a shot, but unfortunately once you're done with the tutorial area it plays too much like an MMO for my tastes. The RPG elements I really don't mind and even welcome, for the most part, but it just had a lot of fetch quests and kill X number of enemies, etc. I also prefer games to be more level based rather than open world.
Thank you so much, though!

Steam recommends these games for the Isometric and Hack & Slash tags: Link
(Bastion, Hades, Warhammer: Chaosbane)

You can search via other tags that you like, hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I've played around a lot with the steam tags and didn't really come up with much in the vein of the 2 games I mentioned. My problem is that I'm not really looking for hack and slash or Diablo clones, but rather games focusing on puzzle solving and platforming (with hopefully some twin-stick shooting) and there really don't seem to be many games like that out there. I'll definitely play around with the steam tags some more, though! Thank you :)

Mystic Towers, Solstice, Head Over Heels, the Batman game on the MSX.

All Isometric with puzzle solving and exploration...probably not exactly what you mean though.

Head Over Heels looks interesting, for sure! I'll definitely keep an eye on it. But yeah, generally speaking I'm looking for more of a mix of action and puzzle solving and platforming, but with a fixed top-down camera. Tricky, I know! Thank you so much for the recommendations! :)

I'm still polishing the results, but this might be a good starting point for you: https://steampeek.hu/?tagid=98,62,94

Thank you so much for your effort, but I'm still not seeing much like GoL or Darksiders Genesis there-- there's lots of the individual gameplay elements I'm looking for in those games, but not all put together in one. I'm starting to believe there's just no other games like those out there :(

I've played most of these (and liked them!) and a couple others that seem very promising are on my secondary wishlist (HellSign and Timelie), but none really come close to having the same gameplay combination of the 2 games I mentioned. It's a list of some pretty nifty games, though, so thank you so much for the suggestions :)

Hob might be what you enjoy. Goliath too. Bit different but not much is Iron Danger, turn-based but all puzzle if you think about it. One final suggestion is Stories: the Path of Destinies. :)

Hob was very good, but Goliath looks very different from what I'm looking for-- I'm really not looking for survival games where you have to spend a bunch of time collecting stuff. Iron Danger I tried from my housemate's account, but didn't like it. Stories: Path of Destinies I tried a demo somewhere a while back and it did look pretty cool, but controlled like crap with KBM (unfortunately I'm so bad at playing games with a controller that I'm pretty sure if I needed to do it to save my life, I'd just die...^^)-- I do have it own it at this point, so maybe something to try and go back to, maybe they've improved the controls at this point.
Thank you so much for the suggestions! :)

While not really what I'm looking for, it was pretty neat. Had no one play it with, though, so it got kinda boring after a while. Thank you and hail Tool! ;)

I liked Ittle Dew a lot. It doesn't have any modern weapon shooting and while it does require agility it's not really a platformer. But it's top down, there is combat (with magic and melee IIRC), exploration and the puzzles are great.

There is also a second part, which I didn't try yet because apparently it's worse than the first one.

I can also highly recommend Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons (was already recommended above). It has no combat, but the puzzles and the story are great. It's even better if you play it in coop.

Ittle Dew was a lot of fun, played it quite a while back. I absolutely loved Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, it's on my favourites category on steam. But yeah, neither are really what I'm looking for at the moment. Thank you so much for the suggestions, though! :)

Adam's Venture Chronicles might be something kinda close, at least in some aspects that you're looking for.

You mentioned Lara Croft GoL and ToO but not Lara Croft Go, which I think I enjoyed even more.

Figment
Back to Bed
Leashed Soul
Love is Dead

Fits your criteria, minus the twin stick shooting

I've played the first 2 and have the last one. Leashed Soul also looks potentially interesting. While I am currently looking for something a bit more action-y, these were pretty cool. Thank you! :)
