Does this work? My girlfriend is really into the Sims and I want to get her some expansions while they're on sale, but I'm not certain they would work. I'd imagine so; since her games are tied to Origin and Steam copies need to be activated on Origin, can't she receive the game on Steam, activate it on Origin and install it through there? Or will this simply not work because EA?

I'm not sure, if they activate onto her account you might be able to get the CD-keys from steam and activate them onto Origin. That is the only thing I could think of.

The expansions are treated as DLC, so I'm guessing Steam won't allow activation on an account without the base game.

Wait, they actually wouldn't let you get the key without the base game? That's kind of irritating, actually.

Yes that is why it would be nicer and easier if everything was all on the one system. but that would make too much sense

It doesn't have to be on the one system, if you could just get the keys without the damn hassle it would be fine. If you have it in your gift inventory can't you view the CD key from there?

No, the CD key will only be viewable once the game is in your library and installed. (And for some games you can only see it through the registry, if at all) As long as the game is in your inventory, you could just as well give it to someone else so it wouldn't make sense to allow you to see the CD key then for a game you might not own in the end.

I was in the same position as you a couple of hours ago, but I impulse bought it. :) Along with a bunch of the other expansions.

I bought the base game with Showtime or whatever.

It just seems like a bad idea to pay for the base game I already have. Better than Origin, but still.

It says on the page for them that it requires the Sims on Steam. It did when I looked at them anyway.

Sadly to register them, you need to activate the base game on steam also.
I purchased them all on steam, so even though they're origin stuff, i still get a decent DRM
