You can buy the normal Agony which is discounted right now (-60%) and get the UNRATED version for free (well, at least for now), instead of buying the UNRATED alone, which isn't discounted, nor it contains the old game.

What's the catch instead of buying Agony Unrated?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The normal version is cheaper and includes the Unrated for free, while if you buy the Unrated instead - it's not discounted, nor you get the original game.

Is this still an available deal? I mean, I thought that you get UNRATED for free only if you had Agony in your collection BEFORE the release of the new version. At least that's how most of these similar freebies have been added on Steam in the past, for existing owners of past versions.

Yes, it is - when you buy Agony (the normal one) you get this SubID.

I don't think it had a more positive reviews than this before. The launch was pretty much a nightmare, apparently.

Yes, it wasn't what most players wanted it to be, judging by the reviews. Very buggy and too dark was a common problem, if I recall correctly, and many were also upset that some gore-related content was missing due to some kind of restriction.
They may have fixed the issues by now, I don't know.

Has anyone actually played this? Is it more than a horror walking sim? The reviews seemed pretty lukewarm before regardless of the whole cut/uncut drama

So, this is a rather old reply since you asked, but 3 days is not too bad I guess... I would say it is mostly walking sim style, but a little more action than something like say... Firewatch? That one really disappointed me! There are some unique abilities you can unlock and such... and they help slightly, but nothing earth-shattering, from what I did skill up so far. I haven't played enough to really say much, but overall mostly walking sim style. There are multiple endings and stuff... The graphics are kinda hurtful to my eyeballs after a while of playing, but it has its charm I guess. Too damn glowy! I can't get into it as much as I'd like, but I'd say it's more WS style than anything else.

There are a few "fights" with your oh-so-trusty torch, and options to push things if they're near edges for instance, but a lot is stealthy walking sim. Got some puzzle elements going with it too, a lot having to do with those multiple paths/endings one can take. Collectibles in it also, as you go along... Some types are pretty important too at later times, in some cases, depending on various endings.

Hope it helps. I know that is very convoluted, but I stopped a few weeks ago due to some other stuff, and haven't gotten back to it yet. My brain fog is kinda not letting me remember well enough to say otherwise.

Hmm, it doesn't sound too enticing but for 5$ I might as well grab it and play it at a later date. Thanks for the reply!

I know some are thinking, what if I buy this and it comes in the HB monthly next week or a bundle right after the sale ends?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I doubt they'd bundle it in a weekly so soon. Especially so, considering the quality of the "regular" HBs in these past six months. As for the HB Monthlies, time will tell. I only grabbed Agony now since it also gave me the Unrated version along with it. This package deal might not last for much longer and I think it's pure oversight from the developer, since they're offering the Unrated release on sale for several times the asking price of the censored version. It might be a marketing ploy as well, but collectors will want both versions anyway. No "ragrets".

It's not an oversight at all. Madmind announced back at the end of October that if you currently own or buy the regular version of Agony you the unrated version for free. It's also listed on the store page under the "About The Game" section.

Then they shouldn't have sold the Unrated at that pricing discrepancy to begin with. Who in their right mind would simply buy the Unrated version now? :)

No, Valve change censored politics, and than they made Unrated version.

Can you explain this? I don't follow/read the updates from Valve.

world is like: omfg, everything is offending, you can't even show ankle anymore, cuz it is arousing for men (welcome back to 1800's) and such bullshit, so Agony developers had to make game more available for a society, since nobody would have wanted to sell uncensored version.

And in general, steam just said: fuck you all, do whatever you want, sell whatever you want, we don't care anymore, just use filter for minors so they won't see anime tiddy. And now you can buy games with sexual content on steam, where you can see boobs, vagina, penis etc and no one cares anymore and that's brilliant.

Fun Fact: First game they approved to be shown having sex in with some details and withou censore is Negligee (hope I have written it right)

And that was actually a change in ToS? Not just 'We don't care anymore except the money you will throw at us!' move???

Getting both for a cheaper price is definitely an advantage, but don't make it sound like not getting the original version with the UNRATED version is a disadvantage. The original version is unfinished shite, and the only reason to have it is to get the UNRATED version.
