So... I've finally decided to do something and at least upgrade my PC's graphics card, I just want to make sure I don't screw up. Also, a little bit more about this. I am actually unable to play RUSH for some unknown reason (a game I just recently won too), not able to play Portal (an old thread), and I have to play Binding of Issac on the lowest setting so it doesn't lag my ass :. And don't give me any youtube videos saying "OH, LOOK IT DOES RUN NOOB", PC's are different, and I've had this one for over 5 or 6 years and HAVE NOT ever changed a thing.

So here are the specs:

  • Motherboard: ASUS M2N61-AX
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
  • Graphics Card: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Anything else you need is hopefully here

My friend recommended me to get this graphics card

  • What are your thoughts?
  • Do I need to upgrade anything else?
  • Should I just make/buy a new PC?
  • Will changing only the graphics card actually affect/change anything.

I would just build a whole new PC if I were you, it's not even worth upgrading older machines for gaming.

Just build a new PC, don't bother to waste your money on parts which isn't able to play the games in the future.

You really should consider an upgrade. However that CPU etc should be ok I.e. low to low-mid on those games. What is killing you is the onboard graphics. Get yourself on craigslist or whatever and get yourself a cheap gpu with 512 of ram and dx 10/11 support then save for a complete upgrade.

hmm that is a valid point, I know this comp is old so I figured I'd need a new PC, any idea on how much an average cost is?

You might want to consider saving some money and building a cheap gaming PC from scratch.

You will get a decent boost from that 8800 if you must go this route you will most likely need a new PSU, the one in there is 300watt and honestly its probably not even a great 300watt, an 8800 takes a lot of energy if I recall, I say a 400-450watt would be a minimum. So you will wind up paying a bit for that also...

All in all, just save up.

Okay, guess I'll stick to low end games for a bit more, once I get a job (almost outta high school... one more year), I'll work on that. This PC is too old, and I hate Vista too -_-.

I'll see if there's any advice later today, if not I'll close the thread.
