The first link, the one with the i7, is most likely more than enough for your gaming needs, although the graphics card is a bit underpowered by today's standards. The second one with the i5 isn't that great of a deal when you compare it to the one above, and I would not recommend it. While it does have a better graphics card, you get less ram and hard drive space. You may also want to consider getting something from http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ as they are cheaper than bestbuy and offer more selection
This one is pretty darn good http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/CyberPower_Z97_i7_Configurator
This one is much cheaper and offers more than the second link in your post http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/INTEL_i5_SFF_Configurator
If you are looking to spend right around 1000$ on a pc, consider this one http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Zeus_Mini-I_960
While there is nothing wrong at all with buying a pre-built pc, and there are many advantages to it, you might want to consider building your own pc. Read no further if you are just looking to buy a prebuilt pc.
The pros to building your own PC are

saves money
allows you to customize every aspect
often better performance for the price
The pros of buying prebuilt are

That being said, if you still don't want to build your own pc, this one is the best of the two, but I do NOT recommend buying from best buy, they are almost always overpriced

If you could build your own PC and are okay with mail-in rebate I'd go with this build

I'm in the market for a new gaming comp, and I'm curious as to which of these two the community finds superior:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-desktop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-2tb-hard-drive-gray/9991162.p?id=1219459040379&skuId=9991162

However, I'm also plenty open to suggestions for any other computers ya'll would recommend. My price range is freebies-$1000. And remember, if there's only one downside to a computer that's otherwise stellar, I can always replace that part later. Any tips?
