Which is the best version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution? Is it the
(1) Director's Cut edition
(2) Augmented Edition
(3) The Ultimate Edition

And can you tell me the biggest differences between all 3 versions?

I have recently bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Augmented Edition, solely because (I read that) it had bonuses not included in the Director's Cut version of the game. I purchased the Augmented Edition and all 3 DLC for it, for a grand total of $8. It was a steal.

Ultimate Edition is the Mac OS X version of Director's Cut.
You can find information on those two versions on the Deus Ex wiki.

The Augmented Edition/Limited Edition lacked the DLC of the Director's Cut version, but has making-of/soundtrack/etc features. You can find information on it on wikipedia.

So yes, you got the 'most complete' possible version.

Very informative, thank you. I am glad to own the most definitive edition of the game -- the Augmented Edition + all DLCs!

Also, I was pressured to buy the Augmented/Limited Edition due to the horrific bug list in the Director's Cut (DC) edition; this is because the DC has an old patch, predating the newer patches in the Augmented & Regular versions of DC:HR (these two versions have less bugs, naturally). Worst of all, the DC version is a graphical downgrade from the older versions!

Are you named after the "Fenris" of Myth II: Chimera? That was one of the greatest games of the '90s, to me. I loved the Myth trilogy.

After doing some research, I believe that the Augmented Edition has exclusively:
1) Game soundtrack
2) Motion comic book
3) 40-page artbook -- yes a forty page artbook.
4) E3 trailers and animated storyboard

The Director's Cut has developer commentary, all DLCs, the ability to kill bosses stealthily, two energy cells, augmentations carry over in new game. Which pales in comparison to the Augmented Edition exclusives.

No, I had choosen this nickname after Fenrir of the old Norse mythology.
Had a search on Steam for the Augmented Edition, but it's not available there. Wanted to buy it to bring my Director's Cut version to the latest patch and the best possible graphics.

If you did buy Deus Ex: Human Revolution, your library would look like this
1) Deus Ex: Human Revolution *
2) Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut.

  • The Augmented and Ultimate Editions both appear as (1), but with extra content inside the game folder *

So you would have two separate games, your Director's Cut version will remain unpatched. There are no future patches for it, sorry to say.
The best graphics and latest patches are available only with the Regular, Augmented, and Ultimate Editions.

I bought only the Director's Cut, don't have the regular version in my library and it's not available on Steam.

"The Director's Cut has developer commentary, all DLCs, the ability to kill bosses stealthily, two energy cells, augmentations carry over in new game"

So is the Augmented edition missing some dlc and the bits mentioned in the quote above ?

Sort of. The US version of the Augmented Edition has no DLCs.
Other regions get the Tactical Enhancement Pack DLC with the Augmented Edition (e.g., the UK version).

The extras for the Director's Cut are mostly in-game stuff (like a patch), while the Augmented Edition has unique content accessible outside the game. So it is no-contest really.

People often complain about the Director's Cut version, but it was fine on my side. Don't really care about the graphics.

I'd just like the version where I have enough time to play it and so many others in my backlog...
