So I got a new job a while ago and decided I'd use my first paycheck to treat myself to a Nintendo 3DS XL. Thing is, the few games I really want for it (Monster Hunter 3, Fire Emblem Awakening, Devil Survivor Overclocked) aren't out yet (in Europe anyway), and I'm not sure if any of the other games out right now are worth buying. I'm not the least bit interested in any of the Mario games and a bit of casual browsing tells me that there's a whole bunch of shovelware already out, but there's nothing that really catches my eye.

So, to anyone who already has a 3DS, what are some good games to get with it? If there's nothing good available right now I'll just wait until MH3 and FEA are available over here.

well if you are a fan of final fantasy, final fantasy music, or music games, then theatrhythm might be something you'd like! personally i like all of those things and had ridiculous amounts of fun playing it. the bit.trip saga is neat as well. seeing all of those awesome games in 3d is cool as heck. there's a game on the 3ds eshop called 'liberation maiden' and it looks amazing. i haven't bought it yet but i'm totally going to when i can. also castlevania mirror of fate is coming out very soon! (march 5th i think). too excited for that. :S good luck!

I've heard good things about Code Of Princess (haven't played it myself though), and there's also a pretty decent Ace Combat game for the 3DS that nobody seems to mention.
Tales of the Abyss is worth a try imo, try and get it for cheap if you have doubts.
Finally there's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars. I know, I know, you might be thinking "SHOVELWARE!". It's actually developed by Julian Gollop himself (you know, XCOM?), and it has some pretty satisfying turn-based strategy gameplay, and very long single-player campaign, with multiple difficulty levels. Since you're getting Fire Emblem, you might want to check this out too.

You might want to buy a Circle Pad Pro for Metal Gear and Monster Hunter (if you're used to the claw grip, then you can skip it).

Also remember to sign up and register your 3DS and games at the Club Nintendo website for monthly free shit.

What's this free shit you speak of? I'm registered and haven't seen anything come through yet :(

Okay it's not exactly free. You have to register your console and games, you get a certain amount of virtual coins and you use these coins to get monthly free games, or save up for a yearly gold and platinum reward. A customer loyalty program, simply put.

Cave Story 3D (if you still haven't got it on Steam, the 3DS version seems nice).
BIT.TRIP Saga.
Paper Mario:
Etrian Oddyseey IV
Kingdom Hearts 3D (if you don't get it, then you suck! really, you have to play it :D)
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward

Have in mind that the 3DS has region-locking games, but if you can't find the games that you want on the stores you go, then import it from mariio128.com. It's from China, but you can get stuff from there if you want.
And get some DS classic games, like Chrono Trigger and Megaman Zero Collection.

Mighty Switch Force! It's one of those digital shop games but the soundtrack is wonderful and I've heard so many good things about it.

Necroposting my own thread a bit. I decided to buy a 3DS XL and get Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars because it was cheap as shit anyway. Just finished playing the first few levels, it seems pretty cool. Kind of surprised by the 3D effect, it's better than I thought it would be. Maybe it's just this game, but it actually looks better than in 2D mode. I also pre-ordered Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem, since I knew I was going to buy them anyway.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I made myself a list of games to look out for, so I know what to get when I want something new. :)

I'm too late but if you have a 3DS you MUST buy Ocarina of Time and Kingdom Hearts. Part of the best games for the console.

Meh. I've already played the original OoT, and I really don't like Kingdom Hearts.

If you don't mind a "normal" DS game, get Dragon Quest 9.It is the best game that was released on the Ds in my opinion.
