I tried to play Witcher 1 but couldn't get into it (Maybe because I haven't really played any rpgs and got blasted with so many new things and old mechanics that I got bored of it. Also Geralt was so slow!).

I think I'll just watch a playthrough of it and try Witcher 2, when I have the time.

The first game - 101 hours, the second - 189 hours. I have not played the third yet, because I am listening to the books at the moment ;)

I find the books interesting. If you really liked the game, I can advise you to read/listen the books.
Actually, I can not compare the books with games, because the events of the game take place after the books.
