First of all, sorry no GA here. However, if you guys would like to be generous, you could tell me possible ways on how to proft from an application on either Android or iOS. As I am currently running in a hackathon as a marketer and I need very good idea(the prize is $27.000). The application my team is developing is called Train Detector, it simply tells you dates of train arrival using the location of people who already has the app instaled.

Of course, people who give me legit ideas will be added to my withelist and I'll make a GA for them very soon.

P.S: Something smart, aside the advertising thingy.

Train Ticket Prices by connecting to the internet?
Departure?
Destinations from A to B?
Add a plane in-app purchase/update?

The app will already be connected to the Internet, it will provide all the features you stated. My question is, how possibly can we profit from the application? Such as premium accounts?

Premium Account owners can purchase their tickets via the app? Can track the train/plane to see how far it is from the destination??

It's an amateur app, it isn't supposed to reach the affilation level. It won't be published unless we actually win., but that's a good idea overall.

I'd say they can detect "X" amount of objects they want until they run out of detections. Either: A: Buy more detections for "X" amount for "Y" amount of detections. or B: Buy a premium account for unlimited detections for "X" amount. OR you could go with a subscribing deal and have Premium for "X" amount of time for "Y" amount. i.e.[Buy Premium accounts for unlimited detections for $1.49 a month!

Good point. As in, "Buy Premium Train Detector and remove ads!"

That doesn't sound profitable to me.

putting ads on it is the easiest way. Then sell a premium account/app version that's ad free

EDIT: Contact train companies and provide links to buy tickets on the app that direct to their website.

We're currently developing an amateur app, it won't go to the affilation level unless we actually win. So, we need a unique idea of profiting, it doesn't need to be precised, certain or guarranteed.

not necessarily, pp can hear about you and still contact you afterward

is there a way you could also use the app to but tickets too? i guess it would be too hard to arrange with the train companies
i mean with an app so utilitarian as this is too little you can do to monetize it if you want to keep it free, there are 3 ways to monetize a free app as far as i see it, advertisement, selling stuff (in this case it could be the tickets, in games it may be ingame currencie or say hats) and last donations... if you dont want people to get bothered by ads you could make them consume just a bit of space or appear after a long while.

Now you said "premium accounts"... what feature you could ossible offer to someone to want to be part of this premium system...perhaps a train pass of some sort? i am thinking in something like the japan rail pass
but again that would be difficult to arrange because you would have to contact the train companies, and that only works for people that have to travel a lot on a short period...

will update if i have any other idea

Yes, being affilated with the train companies isn't an option, yet. My idea for premium acocunt is, since we actually use locations of people who use the app; simply making them pay after a period of time, based on their use of the application and how popular it gets.

mmm something like whatsapp you mean? where you have to pay 1 dollar a year? i mean thats a cool thing to do but only if you have A TON of people using the app

That's the thing, we're implying that the app already succeeded and has a LOOOT of people using it.

I don't understand what it does (simply tells you dates of train arrival using the location of people who already has the app instaled), how and mainly why I would need it or be really helpful to me. So I won't install it (relevant to next point).

Apparently it's more useful if more people has it, so it must be free. Ads and premium version seems the only option. And on those things I have your role.

PS: If it requires to be uploading info from me, -even bits- I would not install it (or have it blocked somehow), my data contract it's limited and won't spend those Mb for others, I use to get out of my Gb easy when I'm not at home and lack of wifi near.

The idea of this application comes from the fac that %40 of the trains in my country are averagely delaied for at least 10 minutes, delays can go up to 2 hours sometimes. Therefore, we will use locations of people having the application, and travelling in certain trains to estimate the time left for it to arrive. Your only contribution is to share location, which wouldn't take that much and it isn't done unless you approve it.

so how much of the $27,000 do we get for providing you with a $27,000 golden idea? no offense but judging from your history of GAs being on your whitelist isnt much of an incentive. i wouldnt even call that "throwing us a bone."

You could share an idea and you won't lose a thing. This is mandatory.

doesnt the contest call for you to devise and implement an idea of your own ingenuity?

Why do you have to be such a critic?

i guess what i see is that you wish to be provided with ingenuity that you are unable to qualify for on your own. you want to take home $27,000 that someone else's idea wins for you and promise the person who provides you with that winning idea a spot on your mediocre whitelist.

its just the facts. i am not angry, maybe annoyed. everything around us from light bulbs to post-it notes are the result of winning ideas. the people who come up with them are the ones who should earn the payout and put food on their families tables.

i just think you should put your own effort into the task.

I'm already putting my own effort, I'm working as a developer and a marketer and I need to do both. I already have several ideas for this, but I need a customer's idea(You in this case) to know which ones I have are good for the users and the ones that aren't. I'm honestly not interested in the money, I'm not even signed up for the contest, the team is supposed to be w single person(my brother) but he was given 2 more spots and he chose me for help.

that doesnt really jive with how your original post is worded:

"...you could tell me possible ways on how to proft from an application on either Android or iOS...."

"...people who give me legit ideas will be added to my withelist and I'll make a GA for them very soon..."

I see nothing in your post providing us with options you came up with for us to decide between...what ideas of yours are good or not. You simply ask for us to provide you with them.

My main idea is to implement points. The more points you have, the better estimationg gets, and extra functions(it uses the concept of a premium account of course). Points can be granted with two methods, either being a trustful user, by using the app several apps to detect your location(a valid location, since we will also add a manual setting) and of course, buying them.

this is info that should be added to the OP and in more detail. your main idea and the ideas in which you are saying that you wish for us to give you feedback on and decide between. they are not and have not been polled in your OP. of course maybe you do not wish to do so because you are worried someone is going to take your ideas and run.

maybe you should ask your brother if what you are doing externally might disqualify "Train Detector" from the contest. what if someone found out what you are doing here and contacted the people holding the event?

It's already settled, you can get minor help, such as ideas. As long as no one actually rewrites your code or changes your whole project(or a part of it), it's okay.

An App that detects trains then automatically solves all puzzles and enters you automatically into every GA. Choo-choo!

I say you go with ads. They can bring in quite some money. Maybe put payable version that removes ads. Or you can sell different skins for the app.

Well, the logical thing is to offer buying train tickets from which the owner (you) gets a percentage of profit. Or you could use person's location to suggest them restaurants and similar venues to visit before their train arrives.
