Oh, you mean that thing which by default will send your executables to basecamp? No thanks

It sends new variants of malware back. If your executables are deemed malicious enough to get sent, then you should think twice before actually running them yourself...
Wait till I tell you that attachments sent over GMail are stored on the Google servers and scanned before they reach their destination :p

First time I heard about this was from a software developer. Basically they send any new executable they don't already know about, not just those "deemed malicious enough". At least that what they did at the time.

You're saying that as if I hadn't spent over a decade saying Google is cancer... I guess it means I should keep repeating it 🙃

Why is that? They obviously run this in a throwaway VM, there's nothing to ransom on this.
But I realize the person who wrote the article probably creates binaries that are more likely to trigger some "high risk" detection algorithm, so it's possible his binaries are always/often checked while more "normal" ones aren't.

I've stopped using AV software years ago. It has heavy impact on computer performance and gives a false feeling of security. With good practices (no strangers attachments, no random executable files from the web, ... ) one can be as safe as possible.
If I have to download a file from a not 100% trusted source, there is still virustotal.com to check it. By the way, one of the most astonishing teachings of virustotal is that, on a given shady file, some AV software detect is as shady, while the others as harmless. I've seen that even with confirmed infected files: there is no 100% reliable standalone AV software, dot.
Still, thanks for sharing in good faith, of course :-)

+1. The performance gain from ditching real time AV felt so nice... Still using some security software though, but nothing as heavy.
On a side note, you wouldn't happen to know a good alternative to WinPatrol, by any chance?

Sorry, but no, I don't. By the way thanks for the link about MS downloading and running unknown executables, an interesting read !

Yes, using an adblocker is indeed highly recommended. I'm using AdBlock and uBlock Origin for my part.

Ouch, I wouldn't connect an XP machine to the internet unless I've no choice :) Are you stuck with old hardware, so you can't use a more up-to-date OS ?

I really hope you don't use your PC for anything important. Without an antivirus you still be hacked in a matter of minutes even if you only visit trusted sites, and do everything listed above. There is so much to exploit...from expired security certificates to undiscovered back doors, and scripts are running from hackers that constantly search for unprotected PCs...I know I'm in IT.
Also even if you have Mac you're not any better, Its just as easy to hack a mac. But hackers just don't bother because their profit margin is way less since there are way fewer users.

Well, I wasn't hacked in years (yes, I know, a good hack is a silent hack, let's say I'm not aware of having been hacked ^^), even if, according to you, it should happen in a matter of minutes :-)
Modern browsers detect expired certificates, and regarding 0 day exploits, AV software is as naked as anybody.
For the record, my first paid job in IT was in the previous century, so I guess I have also an idea of what I'm talking about...
Anyway, my windows machine is used only for gaming and media playing, I have almost no valuable information on it.

used Kaspersky , Was to heavy had a problem with games , softwares and such for no reason some just detect any program as a virus . so everytime i was playing i had this huge amount of lag and fps drops after i uninstalled it system got better , still i dont know what anti-virus to use

Seems Kaspersky has always been that way for as long as I can remember. I personally recommend Bit-defender (90 Day Trial) and Norton Antivirus. I've used them both since the memory virus era. And they have both never let me down.
What a lot of people don't understand is having an antivirus does not give you 100% protection unless you play your part. Like getting vaccinated in real life does not help if you're silly. I still never allow USB devices on my PC except mine and I'm careful of what I install, sites I visit and links I click on

bit is heavier than that .. it wont let me to play properly ,
