I'm curious
I am not entering unless i am sure i will play it. If GA creator cares about that they can always use this topic;

I was wondering about that -- I didn't see how a giveaway WOULDN'T make at least 5, generally...

Too much of a group have that game or aren't interested at playing it. Easy as that and can happen at small group, groups with a lot of users that have a big library or hide list at sg and at groups that want that you play the game in that month.

I've seen this happen in groups who track ratio and demand that you keep it at a certain level. What sometimes happens in these groups is that nobody wants to enter anything (unless he really, really wants it) because winning would mean having to do an expensive giveaway themselves. I personally hate that whole concept. Winning something should be a nice thing and not bring such responsibility with it. It's basically like winning a game has a cost. I don't find that enjoyable. And I actually have seen people winning too much and then having trouble dealing with the financial burden of having to create several non-bundle giveaways in a certain time frame...

Not all the groups with enforced ratios are about unbundled GAs though. And there's always a solution for people who win "too much". Two even. Leave GAs after you win the threshold GA you can't afford to make up for. Or Reroll so they can profit someone else.

Nope, there's always a chance that other entrants are actually interested in a game, why would I spoil it? I mean, yes, sure, theoretically I may enter such a GA, but only if its creator asks for it.

I've actually been curious about that as well. It depends on if I'm friends with that person (like we chatted or it's a whitelist ga). Plus I factor in if it's a genre I might be interested in. If I see someone comment on the giveaway "thanks for the wishlisted giveaway", I might even remove my entry if I don't have it on my wishlist to give that person better odds π . At the end of the day I hope the entry who won wanted the game the most, but I know that's not realistic. You just gotta enter in games you want to win most and hopefully it plays out that way.

I typically don't, although I understand the impulse. I figure that if the giveaway creator doesn't reach the 5 person minimum, they can always cancel the entry and recreate with looser standards or simply make it public. Entering a giveaway that I am not interested in seems very unfair to both those others who entered and presumably wanted the game and to the giveaway creator themself who likely wants their giveaway to be appreciated by the winner.
I do feel bad, however, and if there were some straightforward way to do so, I might help promote the giveaway to others who might be interested.

Well, I do that a few times, like seeing the GA meeting the end, and help to reach the minimun 5 entries, One of that times I win and leave a messaje to ask for a re-roll
I, even let one GA creator to re-roll just becouse he/she didnt have the 5 entries (there are people who want/like the CV raising), and I didnt want that game so much (plus my backlog)
Sorry for my basic english.

Voting is kinda biased, but yes, I think I've entered some giveaways that needed one more entry and close to an end.

I will join the giveaway if there are not 5 entries (unless it is a game I already own, but SG doesn't recognize that I own it). However, if it is a game that I have no desire to ever play, I will leave a note in the comment section letting them know that they can do a reroll if I end up winning. If I see that there are more than 5 entries before the giveaway ends, I remove my entry.

This sort of answer reminds me how good some of the members of that community are. Thank you for sharing your opinion, u did consider doing the same but wondered if it was OK, several people did the same sort of answer as yours which only gives me more incentive to do the same

I only enter games I'm 100% certain I would love to play. I never thought of entering to get someone up to five entries before though. Seems like a nice thing to do, but to be honest, I never see any giveaways that low anyway.

I did it 1 time for a friend and luckily didn't win but I don't want to do it because if I win it just creates hassle for a mod and why? Just don't join games you don't want! If he doesn't make the 5 entries and cares so much he can just delete the giveaway or post it somewhere where he can find 1 or more people to join it to make it to the 5 entries.

Imo entering as a 5th and never intending to win it (asking for a reroll anyway) is gaming the system - if the GA is created with the intention of delivering the game, entries should be with the intention of winning the game. Spirit of the site > cv of anyone.

I think a better way to ask the question is: Do you ever leave a giveaway after it reaches 5 entries?
Right now you are going to get a lot of false positives because most people (including myself) would be inclined to join a giveaway with less than 5 entries, simply because the odds are going to be quite high compared to any ordinary giveaway. In other words, they would do it for their own gain and not with any greater good in mind.

Well, the way the question is asked assumes you would not enter the giveaway otherwise.

I've only done it on a couple of occasions where I was semi-interested in the game, with the intention of leaving if they got more entries. In such case, winning wouldn't be an issue. I have managed to leave both of those GAs in time though.
I would never enter for something that I had no intention of ever playing though in case I'd forget to leave.

A non existent problem if one doesn't spend all their SG time in a closed group.

Oh boy I learned my lesson three years ago about entering giveaways for games I don't care about.
Regardless, I have never had the chance to enter these type of giveaways, unless you count invite-only and hidden behind a difficult puzzle posted here (even those got ~25 entries).

I have the habit to check the GA and took the habit to join those with less than 5 entries and leaving them if it reaches 6+ entries and I'm not 100% interested in the game. The idea that someone will not get the benefit of their nice action always bother me.
How about you? Do you check the GA and join those which need one or two more for it to reach 5 entries?
