Oooh heaven's vault !! I wouldn't have enough time to say all the good things i think about it. What a unique perfect gem !

Never tried this one despite reading just positive reviews about it, but i prefered Roguebook over slay the spire, so we are now at least 2 to prefer something else over slay the spire ! 😄

I can respect games like Slay The Spire, Vampire Survivors and Diablo for making some genres popular, but yeah Monster Train is great (better), my current favourite roguelite/like deckbuilder.
Would have been nice if it got more updates or a sequel. I know there's always mods to make things fresh.

Games that I started playing in 2024 and really liked, order is irrelevant:
Satisfactory
Dredge
Dying Light
Firewatch
Arcade Paradise
I'll add Storage Hunter 'cause I started it recently and I'm really into it (it's in very Early Access)

if you liked Satisfactory you should try the new DLC for Factorio

Can you suggest any other good hack and slash or beat'em'up games? Good story + easy gameplay? I can add God of War and Watchmen: The End Is Nigh to the list, but I didn't play them this year.

Well, I'm a fan of Darksiders franchise, you could check those too if you didn't already, also what comes into my mind is Deadpool (but delisted as far as I know) and stilish combat games like Bayonetta, Vanquish or DMC.
Last 3 are not easy, be warned!

Red Dead Redemption 2
A Hat In Time
Tomb Raider 2013
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Hotline Miami
I believe most of those are well-known and should't be a surprise, but I also wanted to highlight some indie games most of you might have never heard of, but were super good (although some are on the shorter end):
Signs of the Sojourner
Hypnagogia
GNOG
Rainy Season

Republic of pirates is my relative goty as i love Anno, far from a masterpiece like Ixion or Frostpunk, but i enjoyed going all the way for 30h and the sound ambiance is amazing !
Suzerain Kingdom of Rizia dlc writing quality is always over-the-top, like the base game
Book of hours from a bundle has been surprisingly fascinating, finished it in 95h
Songs of steel Hispania at some point devs gave free key to players who had played Numantia. It's like Numantia 3.0, all is better. There is a basic story, interface is fixed. Not goty because the tactic side is still quite basic, but it plays very well and the ost is epic. If you like the old comic named Alix or Tite-Live republic story, you'll love this one.
We love katamari already played it on PS2, it was an immense support when i was in mourning and with a lot of worries, no other game could have carried me like this one.
To OP, you wanna explain why you loved these games you named for those who are curious ?

Seriously. The best. Then, my fav games I've finished this year, in no particular order:
How to say Goodbye (puzzle wrapped in somewhat hurtful narrative about death and loss)
The Room 4: Old Sins (as good as the third one)
Day of the Tentacle: Remastered (played it about 20-30 times since its release, 2-3 times remastered, still my fav point and click graphic adventure, 10/10)
Shards of Chaos (a really weird and chaotic gaming experience, if you like that and VNs, try it)
Now I'd like to mention Forza Horizon 4, which gave me 860 hours of play (averaging more than 5h daily), and also a love-hate feeling, as a good part of those hours were frustrating, unpleasant or downright hateful. I also found a solution/workaround to a years-long bug that the devs said they wouldn't fix, just a couple of months before they announced some changes in gameplay for the game being delisted, that render both the bug and the solution irrelevant. "Yeah we will stop development on the game, and we will not fix that bug that'll hinder your experience, so you paid for a game that doesn't allow you to reach part of the content." To not mention other shortcomings. Sorry I always whine and pester about that, but abandoning games with known bugs is bad ethics. With that fix and some more polishing (nothing really budget-dangerous) it would have made the game an almost perfect racing/driving experience. Instead it's bouncing between "OMG how good" and "what a waste". IMHO.

Still have Forza 4 in backlog, from what you write i wonder how it will look like to play now that the servers are off.
Congratz to have finished it !

I think it will be better, as half of the online races were ruined by "that kind of racers" who think it's wreckfest and don't know what "dirty game" means unless it's against them. Well that's part of the online games, you always have to face some turds.
I haven't finished FH4. I did all I could, and what was left was drifting (I suck at), grinding, and online stuff no one played ever. I tried to get the last of my obtainable achievements, and left the game when I didn't see myself getting the remaining 12. Achievements: 166/178 (93%). https://steamcommunity.com/id/mooshyman/stats/1293830?tab=achievements
I like to get 100% of a game, even what's not included in achievements. But I also know when it's worthless to try.

I see the sort of, yes unfortunately it's DNA of online games.
Hey 93% 100% what difference, a game is meant to have fun, if there is no more fun better play something else.
Comment has been collapsed.
Seriously ? You know when i ask in a GA to unlock the first 2 achievements of a game, it's just to be sure a game is at least tried (because i like the idea that it's tried and also it's not nice to not try at all when someone else could have enjoyed the game).
Forcing ourself to finish a game at 100% when it no longer gives fun is totally different, it means forgetting that we're not just paying for a game with money, but with life time spent playing it. Precious life time... that can be spent doing something else.
Hey you too wish you a great year in advance !

Taking from my previous topics, what were some of the best games you played in 2024? Doesn't matter which platform or if they even were released in 2024 nor do you have had to purchased or traded for them in 2024. I'm also going to allow DLC's as some are the size of actual games.
Now that's out of the way -
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Elder Scrolls Online
Salt and Sacrifice - Yes I actually like the game
Afterimage
Vampire Survivors
Sorry for no GA. I don't have anything at the moment.
