Hey I'm making an android app for a gamer demographic, want to know the distribution of the versions used by gamers.

You can usually check the os version in the phone's Settings, if you scroll down to the System section, it should be in one of the sub-menus.

I have created an SGTools giveaway. The requirement to enter is that you add Dungeon of the ENDLESS to your wishlist. Giveaway (EU only)

Please bump!

Good protection for the giveaway, it works (I have the game in library).

It should protect against people entering with owning the game in private mode.

Yes, it has been discussed. Since it's a new thing, I just wanted to inform you that it goes well in one of the possibilities. I hope more people (including me) start to use this SGTools method.
Oh and I forgot to vote. Fixed.

IMO, this should be implemented here, it would solve the guessing game about DLC ownership too.

Samsung M23 with Android 14. It's a 2 y.o. phone, but I've got a new one at good price just 6 months ago or so. If it doesn't break, I'm likely to use it for another 5 years+, so it will probably get up to Android 15 or 16 and then I will get a new phone around Android 19-20.

I'm mostly curious about older versions, want to know how high to set the minimum sdk version.

Well, my previous phone, that I've dumped only 6 months ago was LG G4 running Android 7, which isn't even included in your pool. If it didn't begin to act weird, I would probably be still using it ;).

Checked just for you, it's 10 QP1A.190711.020.
I hate phones and will not be using your(or anyone else's) phone software ever, maybe this is useful info for you, idk.

Not every app is evil. Some of them can make stuff easier. Mine will be open source, no data collection or ads.

I don't play on the phone, so I'm guessing I'm not your target audience. Should I vote nonetheless?

Good luck with your app, though!

It's not a game, just an app for gamers ;)

Oh, I had understood it was an app for mobile gamers specifically; thanks for clarifying. Voted. :)

Wow that's old, around 8 years old, not the safest. I wouldn't use that OS with internet, just for calls. Lot of issues like this: https://cyware.com/news/critical-flaw-in-android-can-lead-to-device-compromise-just-by-playing-video-29d0d64b

Damn, that's fun. But yeah, it's a tablet, so internet only. Mostly use it for gaming and a few sites so probably all good on my end.

You should use a throwaway google account with old operating systems, also don't access other sensitive accounts either. Good malware is a malware that you don't notice ;)

Pixel 4a, so Android 13. Kind of unexpected, I thought I'd have the latest version but I guess this phone is getting kind of old

There is Android 14 for it, if you are willing to use a custom ROM. At least it's official LineageOS.

Hmmm it's tempting, but I'm hoping to trade it in for a newer phone in the next few weeks (assuming they give me a good trade in value hehe). I wasn't aware of LineageOS, thank you for sharing!

No problem! (Apparently there are two different Pixel 4a's, didn't notice before. If you ever go to ROM route you should find which one is yours.)
It's kinda weird that Google stopped updating a 4 year old phone but never trust Google with anything. :) However since the Google phones are the easiest one to install a custom ROM, you can even find more ROMs at xda and probably will get many updates software-wise. I still have Nexus 7 tablet and it still get updates of Android 11 (that's something).

I could swear my phone had Android 12 but when I checked it says 13, I guess it updated at some point and I just forgot.
