steam should have a system where you can disable friend invites. Those legit ppl who want to add can write on your profile for you to review

oh you can set comment permission to everyone and disable friend invite button. Then it would work

Don't worry, it can be far worse. I get 10+ a day. The phishing links posted on my profile have gotten so bad that I've had to set the comments to "friends only".
As ridiculous as this sounds, Valve need to implement a security captcha for sending friend requests.

There currently isn't a way unless you leave steam for good.
There are some things you can do, but they are only minor.
Don't post on any trade sites. Not in the steam discussion area and none of these 3rd party sites.
Don't bump any trade threads you have started.
Don't post on any discussion area on steam.
But as we know all those are pretty much not going to happen for most people.
Here is a thread with links to a few other threads with good suggestions on how Valve could handle the bot issue while giving the users the options of who they want contacting them.

The suggestions are not perfect, nothing ever will be.

I haven't done any of those 3 in the last 2 years or so, and I only get like one invite a week! Massive success!

I got like 10 during the last hour. If they are level 0-1 and they have private profiles I block them instantly.

I just recently put a rather expensive item on the community market and BAM. 10 friend requests per minute from level 0-1 "users". I now have a huge list of blocked users. When the item was sold it stopped. Now I get the odd 1-2 requests per day like I used to.

Here's how I do it.
Result: I get almost no messages from bots (unless someone is infected), and very few instances of unwanted begging.

Valve don't care. A private profile doesn't work. I get several a day.
It's a simple fucking fix, but Valve don't give an airborne sard....
They need to implement a requirement of either a minimum number of games or, better still, a minimum $ account to be spent via a linked payment method, before an account is able to add friends without a captcha.
In the meantime, suggest an EMP strike...

I keep receiving over the last 6 months invitations every 2 or 3 days from scam bots, mostly 0 lvl. This began from the moment i became an officer on a giveaway group.
I am getting tired of reporting the bot accounts and blocking them. As many mention in their profiles, it is a very common and unpleasant problem.
What i want to know is how to get rid of it! I don't wish to make my profile private, i don't wish to remove myself from the hundreds of groups i am part of. Is there anything i could do? What have you done to stop it? I tried changing my name but it didn't help, probably the bot use the Steam ID
