Im pretty new to steamgifts and I was wondering if there is a way of telling which giveaways are for keys and which are for the actual steam gift. Im sorry if this has been asked or answered, but I have looked over the GAs and searched google for an answer. Its highly possible that I may have just missed it, so I figured this would be the best place to ask. Thank you in advance.

you can ask to the giveaway creator and hope for an answer from them.

There's no way unless it's stated in the description. Why would it matter anyway?

The only thing I can think of is that one doesn't have access to the program and can't redeem a key. But with gifts you can add them to your library from the webpage.

If you can't activate it in 1 week, there's something wrong...

You can always find difficulties, I just suggested the idea.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant, if you don't have access to the computer (to activate the game) for the week (considering the person was fast to deliver), I would find strange you'd be entering GAs altogether, without having where to play the games. :P

But of course, what you say is possible!

I went away for the weekend and only had access to the site by phone. I didn't really saw GA's that interested me, but if I had won a key then I wouldn't have had ways of activating the game.

Yes, but that's what I mean. The weekend is just a couple of days. You'd have the next week to activate it.

I travelled wednesday for holidays and stayed until monday, but yeah, it would be rare to be a whole week without being able to activate it.

I don't know but why would that matter?

If you are using the game (as you should be) it does not have any affect

kk so either asking the creator or seeing it stated in the description only. Thank you for a quick answer to my question. Youre prob. correct, why would it matter? I just thought with the actual gift, there would be less chance of getting scammed. Am I incorrect in thinking this?

I would be more comfortable with just a key, because then I don't need to set my profile to public / add the person as friend just for receiving that single key. But yeah with actual gifts it's probably easier to see what I'm about to receive, than with just a key.

Scammed in what? You're not required to give anything back. You'll either get it or not.

You're not required to give anything back.

Indeed. Not even "thank yous".

(can't believe some people don't even bother to say "thanks" if they win...)

my main reasons for joining GAs is for games that have steam trading cards or for games that I want to own and play myself....ie. like Salt or Stranded Deep. I may be foolish in thinking that i could sale unused trading cards on steam market place and use that to maybe purchase a game ive been wanting. thank you again.

Please don't do this.

Don't enter a giveaway for a game you won't play or won't enjoy. It's a waste of good games that some other user might have loved to own and actually play.
Nobody will stop you from doing it, of course, but here I'm hoping you'll follow my advice and that the games you win will go to good hands. :)

Honestly, there are many games with cards that don't deserve to be played...

If you're never going to play a game, just farm it for cards, then figure out another way.

The purpose of giving away a game is for people to play it. I myself have chosen not to give away games to keep cards for myself, and if I were certain that someone who won my giveaway was just going to farm for $0.24 of cards instead of playing the game away I would request a reroll.

thank you for your reply. i like the idea of using alt accounts, but wasnt sure if that would get me in trouble with steam.

I don't think it'll get you in trouble with steam, but you can't have alt accounts on Steamgifts, though.

As coezo said, Steam isn't going to do anything, but you can't do it on SG.

You could request it all you liked but it wouldn't get granted,

i understand what youre saying, thank you. the only reason i would even bother selling trading cards is that is the only way i have of getting money to purchase the game i really want. But i will respect and honor what you said and i wont enter any GAs unless they are for a game i will actually play. Thank you again

ETA: there was one game on this site that I entered just for the cards, so I removed that entry. Thank you again to everyone for your help and advice.

If you really want to maximize the relatively simple returns from card farming then you ought to invest in alts. Lots of games are given away for free that have cards that you can farm and (with minor effort) funnel back to your main for sale or use.
