Greetings all. Well the the wordplay madness that is Mikalye's Riddle Dungeon is going on simultaneously with this one, and we are going well now. As I type this we look like we are going to end up with something like 20 grand champions, possibly more, and some 80 people have gotten at least one giveaway out of it, so I am happy. Now last week I ran a poll to see what the topic of this week's puzzle should be. And people overwhelming voted for mathematics. So working on combining the geometry of a circle with an ordinarily circular clock face, I present Time for a Puzzle

The prize this week is the entirely apposite Nancy Drew®: Secret of the Old Clock (http://store.steampowered.com/app/31880/). I caught some good natured ribbing for giving away Locomotion rather than Mini Metro for last week's metro puzzle (Down the Tubes), so I went to Steam and searched for "Clock", "Analogue Clock" and "Old Clock" and bought the most appropriate game specifically to give away.

The puzzle ends at the same time as last week's (though obviously with a different date). The puzzle and the giveaway will close on 11:59pm GMT on 1 July 2016.

I remain on target to hit 52 puzzles this year and fulfill my New Year's Resolution.

Enjoy.

Corrections/Errata/Clarifications

  • There was an error in Q10 identified by snrd3r. There isn't necessarily a leading 0, otherwise 4:56 would not count. However, I had omitted 0:12, which is a legitimate answer. So have have adjusted Q10.
  • Where a puzzle requests seconds to (say) 2 decimal places, be sure to ROUND to two decimal places. So if it is say 23.4567, then the answer should be 23.46 rather than 23.45. Also, it is often easier to work the puzzle using fractions and then convert to decimals at the end. See the Sam Loyd puzzle worked as an example.
  • In question 5, If the 65 minutes be counted on the face of the same watch, then the problem would be impossible: for the hands must coincide every 65 5/11 minutes as shown by its face, so count the 65 minutes in real time.

I had one thought of one place to go wrong. It is rounded to two decimal places. So if it is say 23.4567, then the answer should be 23.46 rather than 23.45.

Isn't Q7 mathematically impossible ? .-.

No, it is perfectly possible. The scenario might be a bit contrived, but the mathematics are sound.

Well, if my math checks out then there's no time configuration such that 3 hands are at equal distance from each other. Or maybe I misunderstood the question.

Remember that the hour hand and the minute hand are at 20 minute apart (120 degrees), and the second hand splits the LONG angle, not the short one. So the second hand is also 120 degrees from both the hour hand and the minute hand. See the picture in the problem. The second hand will not be at an integer number of seconds.
