Very interesting history lessons. I only knew about the misinformation in the Game Theorists video about Vikings as I was researching about the game For Honor and I came across Skallagrim's rebuttal video first. Thanks for the informative rant :)

I made a train to rant a bit about misconceptions and faulty information I've heard people repeat in the last few weeks.
heh
Your train is missing sources.
I think I'm giggling a bit too much for the level of humour this actually is.

Unfortunately, the unsubstantiated claims are basically the second nature of the Internet.

As someone who shares your passion and frustration, let me thank you for the history lesson! You put together a very interesting read. Bump!

I remember being at a library a few years ago and one of the people there was arguing with a librarian about how they believe Abraham Lincoln was actually a black man. Sometimes people just believe what they want to believe.

You deserve a whitelist, my friend!
I graduated in history here in Northern Italy, I think that the closest translation for an English speaker is something like "M.A. in History summa cum laude" (5 years overall, maximum grades, dissertation (1000+ pages!) published and translated (not by me of course XD)).
I can feel you =P
Luckily though, as the years are passing, I'm not frustrated or angry to anyone anymore. I'm always trying to do my best in the fields I know, and to learn from those who are way better than me in any field..
I'm embarking on a ride on your train reading your awesome thorough descriptions, even because as a Northern Italian specialized in Middle-Ages history, as you can imagine, I have already a lot of work to do here and I have never had the chance to thoroughly study history of other parts of Europe and the world - actually in my first years I gave all the exams of history of India, China, Islam, Japan, Ancient Egypt, Pre-Columbian America and lots of other ones.. but I specialized in my area..
I'm interested A LOT in contemporary history and in extra-European history, but I'm interested also in history of people who here are quite neglected - mainly Slavic and Germanic studies, but also Celtic ones.
I studied as an accountant, and I don't like at all Greek and Roman history. Ancient history as a whole.. but here you'll find often too much attention paid to our heritage (great heritage, but limited!! it seems that you're forced to know Latin and Greek and know everything about the Roman Empire and nothing else!) and on the other side too little attention paid to history, for instance, of Poland, Scandinavia, Hungary and so on.
Vikings included! We know everything about Romans, but vikings? =P (Obviously as a Middle-Ages historian.. engaged with a girl from Palermo proper and with Northern European ancestry.. I know a lot about Scandinavian history XD)..
Thank you so much for the train and most of all your shared knowledge :)

I love history, and have even studied it at a university level. So it's frustrating to see how some of the same faulty information gets repeated over and over and over again. So I made a train to rant a bit about misconceptions and faulty information I've heard people repeat in the last few weeks.
