Xbox Insiders on Windows PC are invited to preview Quake 4. Originally released in 2005, players lead the invasion of an alien planet in this epic, narrative-driven and action-packed FPS from the award-winning id Software and Raven Software.

Check out the Xbox Insider Hub on Windows PC to join the preview today! This preview is an integral part of bringing the game to Windows PC, and we are delighted that you’ll be a part of it!

How to Participate:
Sign-in on Windows PC and launch the Xbox Insider Hub app (or install the Xbox Insider Hub from the Store first if necessary).
Navigate to Previews > Quake 4.
Select Join.
Wait for the registration to complete to be directed to the Store and install Quake 4!
NOTE: This preview is only available on Windows PC.

NOTE: Please ensure you are signed into the Microsoft Store with the same account you used to register for the flight in the Xbox Insider Hub app.

Known Issues:
Quake 4 requires administrator privileges to run. If somehow the Windows User Account Control (UAC) prompt is bypassed when launching the title for the first time, the title may crash. If that happens, find the Quake4GDK.exe in your XboxGames folder and launch it as administrator.

Yeah, but it's virtually dead. Currently pulled stats by Argumented Steam (useful browser extension for Steam):

  • 20 playing now
  • 37 today's peak
  • 255 all-time peak

Not dead, more of a niche. It requires some thought which is too much for today's FPS gamers

That's on Steam. The only one available on retail with the Microsoft Store is for the Xbox 360, not PC.

I played through Quake 4 about a year and a half ago. It's decent. It's nowhere near as good as Quake 1 or 2, and feels somewhat generic.

Yeah the first half sucked because the movement was slow. After the stroggification tho the game got better.

For a while it used to be the most horrifying thing I've seen as a kid.

Quake 2 feels more generic IMO, no real plot or anything to draw you in. Some levels are really cool though.
Quake 4 fixed that. After the stroggification it became personal.

There hasn't been a PC version in the Microsoft Store. Only the 360 one.

Bear with me on this one....

I'd love to see a remaster of Q3A. Not like QL was but actual Q3a but with upgraded graphics etc.

I think that'd be awesome. QL was great tho, but they kinda killed it when they switched from it being browser based to steam I feel.

Anyone else having issues with game performance? I get 40-50 framerate and frame drops on the highest settings. I have i7-6700HQ and GTX 1070.
