Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast was fun, tech was impressive for its time too, just couldn't live up to the crazy high quality bar from the Genesis/Megadrive games.

I remember back when the game was first released how people declared sonic as pretty much dead and one of the characters that just could not make the transition to 3D. While reviews were decent (hovering around the 7,5-8/10 range, which in the world of gaming reviews means good but not great), people's perception of the game seemed to be far more negative. Though people seem to have a far less negative opinion of the game now than they did back then.

If you stick to Sonic's campaign it's not only a good game but a highly re-playable classic, an obviously flawed one tho. The main problem is how unbalanced the game is as a full package, fishing with Big is the part where most people's experience with the title turns into a tedious hell that colors their memories negatively.

Sonic's campaign is the highlight of the game, but it's also 1/6 of the game (though Tails had one that was alright as well), and even then I personally found it to be inconsistent. The speedy segments were fun, but anything that was not speedy was overall pretty annoying. Big clearly had the worst campaign, but E-102, Knuckles and Amy were pretty boring as well.

I'm willing to defend Gamma's story, not only is the plot better written than the rest of the game but the gameplay is fun. Also the levels are so brief that there's no time to get bored, all but the final one are over in a couple of minutes.
