Do I still get 75% discount for owning the original or is it only through the coupon now?

You'll still get the 75% discount. (At least that was the case earlier today)
Nope, apparently you don't. If you remove the coupon in your cart, it says 20€.

Well, I don't really care, I don't see the point in buying a game twice, really.
Comment has been collapsed.
I do because I haven't bought it yet, so now I have a limited time for doing it.

Ah! Well, but "you guys" (aka people who don't own the first game) don't get the coupon anyway, do you? So it's basically like a 3 month long sale for you..
Comment has been collapsed.
No, I own the original edition, but not the definitive one. Before, I could upgrade to the definitive one any time I wanted, but now with the coupon I have to buy it in 3 months or I'll have to pay full price for it.

Ah. Got it. Still don't understand why you'd want the DE when you have the original one buuuut I guess people are just different and all :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Isn't it better? And achievements don't work at all in the original.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, all achievements I got worked just fine for me. If it's better though, I don't know.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, it's a problem that not everyone has. I beat the entire game and didn't get a single achievement.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh wow, that's insane then. I think that if you're contemplating getting it, 75% off is a sweet deal and I don't think it's gonna get any lower any time soon. But yeah, you do you!

Well, I feel like expansion packs are something different since you don't have to buy the base game again for them, and here you're basically doing that. Though I have to admit, I'm not really sure what new contents exactly actually are in the DE of Ori, so maybe I should go look that up first.

It's functionally an expansion pack, integrated into the rerelease. A lot of Steam games have taken to this approach. In one sense it allows them to not have to release a separate expansion, but primarily it seems to be a way of forcing people to rebuy the game so that they can get more money off of it. It's become all too common.
The fact that they present it differently than DLC/expansion content doesn't make the user-end effect any different.

I guess so. Still a pretty shitty thing to do but as long as people are buying it, developers will continue to sell their games that way..

I really don't understand why people call this a shitty thing to do. The original game was released with no intention of releasing a DE version. That decision came after all the positive fan feedback on ways to improve the game. And since the DE would attract more original owners than new purchasers, asking them to chip in $5 for all the work they had to do to add new abilities, a plethora of improvements, and extra content was met with pissing and moaning that it wasn't free. Moon Studios was doing fan service here. Maybe based on the complaints they learned their lesson not to make that mistake again.

Honestly, that's fine and all, I'm not saying we should have gotten it for free, no. I just don't like the idea of having to buy two games. They could've just made it DLC but instead you'll have to purchase the game again and won't even be able to continue your previous save. I guess it does make sense for people who don't own the original game, but to me it just seems unnecessary. I don't know, I'm just not a fan of it.

If the game wasn't originally built to be extensible via DLC, then buying a separate game may have been the only viable architectural decision. In that regard it's telling that new buyers of the DC edition also get a copy of the original -- which is no longer available for sale.

I saw it earlier and got excited but I still can't purchase gift copies so, yeaah.. ._.
Edit: nvm, I checked earlier today and now all of a sudden it works? Well thanks for the thread haha :D

Yup, they can! Coupons aren't giftable, however :) I'm dumb :P

Where do I get a coupon? That game has been in my wishlist forever :/

If anyone has a spare coupon, I would love to get this game.:)
Unless you have the MA, it would be held for 15 days, but it looks like the coupon is good for 90 days anyhow.:)

There may be a few groups for the purpose of re-purposing coupons but the one I belong to and have used is this one http://steamcommunity.com/groups/coupondumpster. You can ditch coupons you don't need and request coupons that are in their list (just be sure to follow their simple format for requesting them) :)

A big thank you to eeev for giving me a coupon. Thank you very much!:)

If someone still has a coupon they won't use: I would very much like to have it! :-)

Then get a coupon with someone who does have it and buy it!
I'm thinking about doing the same.

madu maduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
I have normal edition, so I think I'll pass! And if I buy it it's gonna get region restricted :(

The game plays very differently in DE. There are new abilities and some power ups are obtained with those new abilities now.

I read that it got 2 new areas, fast travel and some abilities yes. So it might be worth the upgrade to DE then... hmmm I'm really early with the game so I might reconsider buying the DE if it truly is the superior experience, but I have so little time that I'm afraid it will be backlogged for several months :/

I don't know if it's a superior experience, but it's definitely a different one. The ability to enter dungeons that you already beat again is a nice addition, but otherwise I feel both versions have their merits.
I'm a bit biased though, Ori was one of my favorite games of last year.
