So pretty much, I want a PSP, it has a great array of titles and it seems...fun, with all the physical buttons and stuff. I could use PPSSPP...but it's just not the same.

I plan on putting a custom CFW on it, and then just getting ISO's from the internet. I am not going to use it to emulate games though.

My friend said he will give me his for $30 with a 32 GB card. Should I do it, or not?

EDIT: He said hasen't checked what size the card is yet, he thinks it is 32 GB. I hope it is...

EDIT 2: The issue is that it dosen't have to many genres appealing to me. I like Dexter, God of War, GTA, Need for Speed, but I don't like most RPG games, then again I have never actually played any RPG PSP game, are they fun?

EDIT 3: Well, shit. My friend ended up not even finding it..oh well. Similar prices go around on Ebay (with a good memory stick) for $60+. If it costs that much then I might as well just get a new phone.

What? I heard the 1000 had decreased RAM than the 2000 and 3000. The 3000 is easily hackable and does not need the Pandora Battery, the 3000 has temporary CFW, so everytime I start it up I just reflash (which takes like 5 seconds).

You need up information to date.
3000 is better and even crack easier.
Eventually, it can even run GBA emulator without crack.

no, dont buy new

friend? $30, is it modable? also are we allowed to talk about isos on this site?

guess, you can buy..

Yes it is moddable, yes you are allowed to talk about ISO's, but no links.

I have enough brain cells to not waste $100+ dollars on a brand new one though XD

You don't need a new battery, but you should still get the 2000. They are easily cracked. The 3000 takes a LONG time and a lot of luck to get it cracked right, and even then you need to redo it every time you run out of battery or shut it all the way off.

What? I heard that it is hard to load permanent CFW on the 3000. But it is very easy to load temporary CFW onto the 3000.

What does that mean?

you can crack it in less than 2 minutes :)
and don't worry about permanent CFW,and about redoing it after shutting it off.
you don't even have to completely shut it off,you can just put your psp on stand by mode...
and even if you completely shut it off,new versions of CFWs have a "fast recovery" option,so after shutting it off all you have to do is running this fast recovery app and it will do the job in a few seconds.....

just instal the latest version of "pro cfw" and your good to go.

For 30$, go for it. Hell, the memory card alone is worth around 15.

hell yes, haven't played many games on the PSP (even less than i owned as physical copies) amongst over 100 GB of iso's)

  • way more games than vita, still good today

recommended games: Starocean I & II (Remakes), Katamari, all the Metal Gear, Crimsongem Saga ... so many good RPG and whatnot

I recommend you to buy a PSP 2000 or as last resort the 3000, NOT the 1000 (FAT version) nor the PSP Street so you can get PRO Online Client and play online on your "WLAN Only" games. (Not sure if there's a lot of people still playing PSP games, played lots of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and GOD EATER back then.)

Just buy 2000, so you can easily hack it without them issues of 3000 that Sighery told too :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sighery is wrong. You used to have to use Pandora battery 5-6 years ago, but the same thing dosen't apply anymore. And on top of that my friend has a 3000, and I looked for a used 2000 on Ebay and it went for around $50+.

I can understand how a 2000 can use a permanent CFW, but still the 3000 seems to be the better option in this case.

Why don't you connect a controller and play your PPSSPP using it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's just not the same!

Permalink

It's even better. You can play monster hunter: freedom unite with hamachi, with upgraded graphics if you use the correct configuration. (You can even play the Monster Hunter remake for the PS3)
And of course, a dualshock is not the same as playing on the PSP... It's a lot more confortable!

I could do that, but several issues apply.

  1. I have a cheap $20 3rd-party PS3 controller, I used a make micro usb to female usb cable to connect it, then to find out even with a root and additional software it did not work. Buying a new PS3 controller would end up being around $30...which is the price I am buying the PSP for.

  2. I plan on using the PSP in bed, so I do not know how I could play with a controller connected to my phone. It would be quite an annoyance.

30$ is a very good deal for 3000, it's easily CFW-able but from what I know PSP supports cards only up to 16GB

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

My friend thinks it is 32 GB. He is still trying to find the PSP itself, I really hope the finds it. Anyways, my minimum would probably be 4 GB, an average PSP game take's up around 1.2 GB. So I could hold 1-2 games.

I (still) have the first PSP (the FAT, 1000 model, whatever) and I use an adapter that converts 1/2 microSD to a Sony MemoryStick. I went as high as 64BG (2x32GB) but there's proof that you can get 128GB (2x64GB). It's even faster than the original Sony MemoryStick.

You could do this, but the issue is that the PSP is a weak device, and using 2 SD cards will slow it down, because the PSP is not supposed to be using 2 cards in a RAID configuration.

The only situation where the performance will be higher or equvalent is if you are using a Class 10 or above SD card. Anything below that will have a performance decrease.

The 2000 on temporary CFW? Bro, you could use permanent CFW on the 2000 with firmware 6.60.

I used to have a permanent CFW on my psp 3000, so yes, it is doable - I did it myself without any experience, just by following a bunch of youtube videos. Sold it for 20 bucks and kinda regret it - some games are really fun, can also be used as a great media player

Getting a permanent CFW on the PSP 3000 isn't hard, but it's not the best idea. Because you have to downgrade to 6.20; and some games won't work on older firmware?

And why did you sell it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

found myself too busy to play games on it and it was just lying around for months, so i sold it to a friend. Don't remember the exact deal with downgrades tho - had it almost 3 years ago

I think that you already know some games for it, but i will recommend you some good ones anyway:

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (currently playing it right now, awesome)
God of War chains of the olympus and Ghost of Sparta
Kingdom hearts Birth by sleep
Fat princess
Patapon 1, 2 and 3
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker

Some of the best exclusives there, if you are thinking in others i would be interested in reading! :D

Also, where the fuck do you get it for 30 bucks!?!?!?!

Thanks for listin' some of the good games. But anyways my good friend that I have known for a long time dosen't use his PSP anymore and I asked him if I could have it for $30. But he hasn't found it yet and he is still lookin', I really hope he finds it because his is in perfect condition, I really hope he finds it.

I have a 3000, and the temporary CFW is not a problem. You only have to reflash when you shut down the device, so I just keep my psp in sleep mode.

I would jump on it. I loved my PSP, it getting stolen and then later selling off my games for bills was devastating. The pile was higher than my head at the store. I'll replace it if I can ever find a decently priced system, locally the 3000s go for NZ$80.

As far as 2000 VS 3000 goes, 2000 was worse for motion blue, 3000 can have visible scan lines. Either way, who cares, lots of good games, and the system had decent support from homebrew programmers. I used to keep Cave Story on my PSP.

Be aware that official support for PSN store access has ended though, so its bothersome to download PS1 Classics or PSP games to the system if you own any on PSN (given the freebies I reported in the past, I hope you considered grabbing them if you saw the topic).

for 30$ I'd totally get it (my 1000 sadly have a broken analog stick now :/), but not so sure if you don't like jRPGs ;p I played mostly RPGs on mine ;) And a few very fun casueal exclusives or things that you don't generally get on PC - Patapon (all 3 are totally awesome!), Loco Roco, Little Big Planet ;)

I would say buy a 2000, its a bit less of a hassle to get it flashed

And little protip: never EVER use CipFlasher on a 3000 series (basically a utility to "burn" the CWF into your PSP permanently, totally pointless with PRO 6.60), it will literally brick your console as far as I heard. Also be very careful when modifying files around the VHS me, especially with the clock speed xD
