The gifter will contact you - usually on Steam or gift directly to you. Keep an eye on your email but if they gift directly through Steam you will receive a notification stating someone has gifted you a game. They have a week to send you the gift before you can report it as fake - but let us assume, for now, that it is genuine.

Steam should really have something that pops up when you create a Steam account that tells you any games you download are linked to your account and only your account, and that you can never move them to another account ever.
